🏈 GAME THREAD Alabama vs LSU - Tide Shuts Out LSU. In Death Valley. At night.

It's not a big deal in the whole scheme of things but I did find it a bit interesting...

On SEC Now, the Friday night edition, Dari and Chris were comparing the Bama WRs to the LSU defensive backs.

They noted Bamas YAC with the receivers being at 10.4 and they also noted it was first in the FBS. In contrast they mentioned LSUs DB's only allowing 4.2 YAC and how that led the SEC.

I'm not sure where the official stats for YAC for receivers happens to be found. I somehow suspect that there's a bit of a difference when one is leading the FBS, and the other is leading the SEC. I'd like to know where that later one fits within the FBS.

Corso: "Remember, Coach O is 11-2 at night in Death Valley." A loss to Bama, and a loss to an unranked Troy. I'd have to look to be sure but I'm thinking the only ranked team in those 11 wins is #22 Mississippi State this season.

According to them, Bama receivers lead FBS (Offensive stat) and LSU DBs lead SEC (Defensive stat). I can't find the stat anywhere, even after looking through posts in other large football sites also looking for them. And those have to be numbers they pulled out of their asses due to the other numbers below.

The stats I can find are (teamrankings.com and ncaa.com mixed)

Offense
Bama - 13.1 yards per attempt (1st) and 18.8 per completion (4th/2nd). Note on the per completion is that the teams ahead of us have thrown about 1/4 the passes.
LSU - 6.8 yards per attempt (84th) and 12.7 per completion (54th)

Defense
Bame - 5.8 yards per attempt (11th) and 11.4 per completion (36th)
LSU - 5.9 yards per attempt (14th) and 12.4 per completion (70th)

Passing Efficiency Offense
Bama - 226.29 (1st)
LSU - 117.63 (107th)

Passing Efficiency Defense
Bama - 105.73 (12th)
LSU - 98.28 (4th)

@rocknthefreeworld, I use those along with a handful of others. (Gosh, Ed is an uncomfortable watch on GameDay) I see "after contact" yards quite bit but never have stumbled across the site where it's tracked, or where it could be referenced.

I'm guessing/assuming ESPN Stats and Info pays a company for their database. I've seen Elias Sports referenced--glanced at it a few years ago and as I recall is was subscription based.

A few random thoughts strung together this morning ...

  • Before this season we had a few conversations about Matt Luke at Ole Miss. If you asked yourself "did I think Ole Miss had a defense" right now you'd say, 'no.' We were all surprised at how well the defensive secondary did against that group. It did define them, "they're defendable."

  • Before this season we talked about Auburn season last year. Oh, that 10 win mark was mentioned a few times, wasn't it? How many times was it pointed out "they don't do this back to back." Gus and the contract and what we knew we'd see--because history tells us so--it's a down year on the Plains.

  • Before this season we all asked the question, and many answered, "It's a Mark Richt team--in Miami." That defines itself, right? Good, athletic team that's overrated and is going to "mistake its way" out of ball games.

  • Before this season we heard about the chances of Georgia running the table. Those statements were met with "no, UGA will derp it up somewhere along the way. They always do. Because history tells us so ...

Have I summed up LSU's season pretty succinctly?
