šŸˆ Alabama visits Auburn.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama worked outside Monday in its first practice in preparation for Saturday’s Iron Bowl against Auburn. Players were dressed in shirts and shells in chilly, 56-degree weather for the workout.

Here are some notes from the media viewing period:

— Minkah Fitzpatrick (hamstring) practiced and did not have a support-strip on his leg. He was moving fine and appears probable for Saturday’s game.

— The rest of the players on Alabama’s injury report — Christian Miller (bicep), Terrell Lewis (elbow), Mack Wilson (foot) and Ross Pierschbacher (ankle) — were not present during the media viewing period.

Earlier in the day, Saban said none of the above players were cleared by the medical staff. However, he didn’t rule anyone out for the game.

Saban on Miller, Lewis and Wilson: ā€œTerrell Lewis and Christian Miller are in the functional phase of rehab and not cleared medically to play. Mack Wilson has not practiced yet and has not been medically cleared to play. Whatever is out there, I'm giving you the facts from here. I'm not saying that those guys are out for the game, and I'm not able to say whether they'll be able to play in the game.ā€

Saban on Pierschbacher: ā€œHe's day-to-day, too. He's not been medically cleared to practice yet. Maybe sometime later in the week he will. We just have to see how he does.ā€

— Dylan Moses was second in line behind Rashaan Evans in the inside linebackers unit. Keith Holcombe was third in line, followed by Markail Benton, Joshua McMillon and VanDarius Cowan.

— Benton was wearing a No. 49 scout-team jersey representing Auburn linebacker Darrell Williams (6-foot-2, 244 pounds). Williams is tied for second on the team with 44 tackles and has 3.5 tackles for a loss with half a sack and four quarterback hurries.

— J.C. Hassenauer continues to occupy Pierschbacher’s spot at left guard. Hassenauer earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, grading out at 91 percent and not allowing a sack against Mercer.

— Alabama’s second-unit offensive line consisted of Alex Leatherwood, Richie Petitbon, Chris Owens, Joshua Casher and Jedrick Wills.

— Brian Robinson appeared to have his left leg wrapped, but was participating in drills with the rest of the running backs. He was wearing a No. 21 scout-team jersey representing Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson (6-foot, 212 pounds). Johnson is one of the nation’s premier running backs and leads the Tigers in rushing with 1,172 yards and 16 touchdowns on 220 carries, an average of 5.53 yards per attempt. The junior also has 18 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

— It was hard to see much from the running back unit, but it appeared Josh Jacobs was having his leg wrapped by a trainer. I did not see him participate in any drills, but it was a short viewing period. Jacobs wasn’t included in Saban’s injury report, and I expect him to be fine. If he was seriously injured during practice, he would not have been on the field.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The fight for the SEC West might include a few more key weapons for Alabama. Heading into this week’s Iron Bowl, head coach Nick Saban provided a lengthy injury report, including updates on injured linebackers Christian Miller (bicep), Terrell Lewis (elbow) and Mack Wilson (foot), all of whom could be back this week.

ā€œTerrell Lewis and Christian Miller are in the functional phase and are not cleared medically to play. Mack Wilson has not practiced yet and has not been medically cleared to play,ā€ Saban said. ā€œSo whatever’s out there, I’ll give you the facts from here. I’m not saying that those guys are out for the game and I’m not able to say whether they’ll be able play in the game.ā€

Saban also said that injured defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick (hamstring) will practice, while kicker Andy Pappanastos will be ā€œday-to-dayā€ after being held out of last week’s game with a ā€œlittle bit of a pull.ā€

Starting left guard Ross Pierschbacher was also held out of Saturday’s game with a high-ankle sprain. He was replaced by J.C. Hassenauer who earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, grading out at 91 percent and not allowing a sack against Mercer. Saban said Pierschbacher is also ā€œday-to-day.ā€

ā€œHe’s not medically cleared to practice yet, maybe sometime later in the week he will,ā€ Saban said. ā€œWe’ll just have to see how he does.ā€

All six players would be much-welcomed additions as Alabama travels to Auburn on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on CBS. The winner of the game will clinch the division title and earn a trip to Atlanta to play Georgia in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 2.

Miller and Lewis suffered what were thought at the time to be season-ending injuries during Alabama’s season-opening victory against Florida State. Miller suffered a torn bicep, while Lewis tore a ligament in his elbow. Wilson suffered a broken foot during the game against LSU on Nov. 4.

Despite holding Mercer to just 161 total yards last week, Alabama did not record a sack against the Bears. After leading the nation in sacks the past two seasons, the Crimson Tide ranks tied for No. 19 in the nation this year with 30 sacks through 11 games. Of those, only one of them has been recorded by an outside linebacker — Jamey Mosley was credited with a sack when he ran Fresno State quarterback Chason Virgil out of bounds during the second week of the season.

If any of the linebackers are able to return for this week’s game, it could greatly impact Alabama’s ability to an expose and Auburn offense that is tied for No. 88 in the nation in sacks allowed this season. The Tigers have given up 26 sacks over 11 games, an average 2.36 per contest.

I’m listening to too much sports talk. Seems like all the talking heads believe the barn is better in every aspect. I disagree but it’s starting to make me a little uneasy.
JMO but the barn is the best team we have played or it appears to be the case. Can our OL block their front 4? Can out DL contain their running game? Can our safety's keep from getting beat on long TD's? I expect Bama to go with a lot of Harris and Jacobs in the backfield at the same time and I expect Jalen to have a large part in running with the ball be design. I am hopeful that we can catch each punt whether we return for any yards would just be plus. Survive the 1st Qtr......that will be the key.

It's not listening to too much sports talk as much as it is paying attention to what they are saying instead of going with what you know.

What do we know? If the media is on Auburn's bandwagon they are pulling in listeners/viewers from all the Auburn folk and everyone who would like to see Bama lose. What more fortunate for them is they are also pulling in Tide fans who get incensed by listening. They are literally killing every bird with one stone--except those who look at the two teams.

One thing that worries me is Saban hasn't defeated an Auburn team with nine wins on the season.
Ya know, posting something like this is going to get a response you'll likely not like. But ...

It used to be a bragging point that Saban hasn't beaten an Auburn team with eight wins. Oops, they were wrong on that one.

Now it's nine, eh?

Auburn will be or seems to be able to stop the running game. I think their weakness is the secondary IF we can do a good job blocking their front line. Once we start hitting some passes over the middle and on the edges, I would think the running game would loosen up a bit. It wouldn't surprise me to see auburn put a pretty good effort in on run defense in the front side of the game.

You must be one of those roulette players that puts all his money on red because black has shown the last 10 rolls... smh. If you must be superstitious.. then your stat isn't say much since au is rarely at 9 wins in the Saban era. 2 times to be exact, with this being the 3rd. I really don't see how you can draw any conclusion on how this Ironbowl will end up from any past performances since each year is a different team and different set of circumstance that has little to do with past years. Now, having said that... in both losses to 9 win au teams, au was extremely lucky to win and were not the better team if you watch either game.

You know the Auburnites are including the LSU years as well in their little "stat." Funny thing about that is they never mention how many times they've lost when they've had nine wins, or eight wins.

That said, on your point(s) here:

The Cam year was one and as it happens in football they happened to get a lot of breaks--possibly every one a person could dream of happening. Does 2007 even count considering the suspensions, etc? OK, let's give them that one.

I remember one of them at LSU and as I recall LSU had that one won but they were flagged (can't remember what though...jumping off the back of another player, maybe?)
