ā€œWe’ll definitely petition for that, then at least he’ll have a choice as to whether he wants to do that or not,ā€ head coach Nick Saban said after Wednesday’s practice. ā€œ... Josh is a really mature, good leader. School’s important to him, and I’m sure he’ll make a great decision about coming back. We’d love to have him.ā€

Its pretty legit..... not like he played a few games and got hurt....
Ihope he is back
Yes, The NCAA understands it legit, but they give you 5 years to play 4 for that reason. That is why it normally takes TWO lost years to injury to get them to give out a 6th year extension. A player not being good enough to see the field for one of those 5 years typically isn't considered a "hardship".

5-10 years ago, this would be a no go for sure. However, recently the NCAA has been more "lenient" on this ruling... so I'd say he's got a shot, but I wouldn't call it a slam dunk by any means.

Got ya....and understand that.... no slam dunk...agree....
But still has precedent and that makes it legit...

I share 94's doubt here and it's because there is precedent of them denying the hardship waiver. He's already had his redshirt year and didn't see the field his RSFR season. That really hurts his case. Josh not playing his RSFr season wasn't something I think they'd consider to be beyond the control of Josh or UA.

Where is the precedent of it being approved? It's out there...few and far between examples.

Getting technical here and going by what they (NCAA) have to say.

12.8.1.5 Five-Year Rule Waiver. The Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement, or its designated committee,
by a two-thirds majority of its members present and voting, may approve waivers of the five-year rule as
it deems appropriate. (Revised: 7/30/10, 7/31/14)

12.8.1.5.1 Waiver Criteria. A waiver of the five-year period of eligibility is designed to provide a student athlete
with the opportunity to participate in four seasons of intercollegiate competition within a five-year
period. This waiver may be granted, based upon objective evidence, for reasons that are beyond the control
of the student-athlete or the institution
, which deprive the student-athlete of the opportunity to participate
for more than one season in his or her sport within the five-year period. The Committee on Student-Athlete
Reinstatement reserves the right to review requests that do not meet the more-than-one-year criteria detailed

But it has precedent
But i don't disagree it is hard for approval and being a bama player don't help
So for Josh and bama,,,, good luck
