🏈 Alabama releases two years' worth of NCAA secondary rules violations : UPDATE- official release incl

Meh. 99% of the programs in the country probably have a similar list. I may be wrong but I am convinced that in some situations, secondary violations are an intentional, calculated risk.It is an interesting read but far from concerning.

Agreed. Minor stuff except for a few situations someone should have known better. Some borderline ridiculous as well.

One football violation involved a football player selling complimentary tickets. The player was required to repay the benefit to a charity and was withheld from competition. Additional rules education was provided to the entire team.

This one is a gimme...player knew better and I have no doubt about that. It's basic NCAA 101.

Another football violation involved a player providing impermissible transportation off campus to a recruit on an unofficial visit. The recruit was required to repay the benefit to charity and the player and football staff received rules education.

Ridiculous. Sure, I can see how this rule can be abused if the desire is there. But, this is a situation where it's likely a recruit was on a visit, the subject came up to go somewhere else and the recruit jumped in with his host.

I'm not saying that's what happened, but it's likely is pretty close to that.

Just as a comparison for those who haven't followed Ohio State and their story for the last decade.

Oh, I'd be lying if I said this didn't sit well with me. It's too easy to monitor by the individual.

The men's basketball program was cited for two violations. Impermissible text messages to recruits resulted in relatively stiff action: a 14-day ban on the entire coaching staff on sending an recruiting materials to any recruits; a 14-day ban on an assistant coach initiating calls to a recruit; a 30-day ban on the entire coaching staff on all recruiting contact with a recruit; a reduction in the number of official visits; and a letter of admonishment.

If you'll notice, these events have already taken place and the penalties, self-imposed / recommended by UA to the NCAA, have been served as well.

Occasionally, and by that I mean very in-often, you'll see the NCAA add something on to a secondary violation.

We just released a report. If one took the time they could find the majority of these stories already out there. Unfortunately, some discussed to ad-nauseum.

Ummm, I haven't taken the time to read the first report. I read the update today. First question that comes to mind is why does the University release this? Did some member of media request via open records (i.e. so we "had to" at that point)? Second question and much more obvious is where the heck is Auburn's? Seriously, their little dog and pony show continues without interruption while I read about voice mails and text messages and going to the bathroom at the wrong time @ Alabama?!

The conglomeration that is al.com—the Huntsville, Mobile, and Birmingham papers—filed a FOIA request. They do it all the time and by law the University has to release the papers/reports.

Now, as to Auburn? I don't know if there is a request that's been submitted for those records.

Sandra, if you think their little "dog and pony show" continues without notice you are probably listening to your hubbie to often.

I could stop and count how many times we've had this conversation...I'm afraid I'd end up using this symbol too often.
