Daylon Charlot's numbers have gone down, but his productivity has increased from last season for Patterson High School in Louisiana.
Charlot committed to Alabama on Feb. 1 of this year. He and junior Mykel Jones are two highly-touted receivers on a Patterson team, which has a record of 6-3 but is one of the top teams in Louisiana Class 3A. Patterson head coach Chad Blanchardchallenged his team with a tough schedule earlier in the season.
"People have been trying to do a lot of things to keep us from getting the ball to them," Blanchard told AL.com. "It may not have helped their numbers out, but it's helped our team a great deal."
Blanchard said Charlot has 18 receptions, but nine have gone for touchdowns and he has around 510 receiving yards, nearly 30 yards per reception. He's also playing cornerback, and has four interceptions and 10 pass breakups. Both Charlot and Jones caught around 50 passes last year.
"People are trying to do a lot of different things to stop him," Blanchard said. "They put a lot of people on him in coverage. It's affecting his numbers, but it hasn't affected his productivity. Him being out there and the things he does for us, including blocking-wise, it's helping him have a productive season for us."
Charlot picked up an LSU offer during the spring and plans on being at Alabama's game Saturday at LSU, Blanchard said. He said Alabama assistants Burton Burns and Billy Napier continue to recruit Charlot hard. LSU is pushing for Charlot to change his commitment, but Charlot appears solid to Alabama.
"It's an in-state school that would like him to stay in state," Blanchard said. "I know that they're at least interested in him for sure. What level of interest he has in them, I'm not really sure, but I don't think it's much, to be honest with you.
"I would think he's pretty solid to Alabama."
Blanchard said he's not sure when Charlot will make his official visit to Alabama. He has made multiple trips to Alabama since his commitment, but not yet for a game.
Charlot is a 4-star recruit rated as the No. 147 player nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings.
