šŸˆ Alabama practice report, Day 2: Rank-and-file take early shape on defense

Per Aaron Suttles, Tidesports.com

It was another humid day as the team hit the field for the second practice of fall camp. They worked in jerseys, shorts and helmets for the second day in a row. Here is what I saw during the limited viewing period.

I didn't get a detailed look at the secondary Thursday so I spent my time today on that side of the field.

Nick Saban and Mel Tucker worked with the secondary with Tucker leading the drills before breaking into individual groups. Cyrus Jones worked with the 1s at right corner with Tony Brown opposite at left corner. One of the GAs grabbed two walk ons and true freshman Kendall Sheffield and worked with them individually away from the other corners. Minkah Fitzpatrick stayed and worked with the regular group.

With the safeties, Ronnie Harrison really sticks out, if just for his size alone. He and Hootie Jones are literally the big men of the group. The position group still remains the same for now with Geno Smith, who now is listed on the roster as Geno Matias-Smith, and Eddie Jackson as the top two safeties.

The wide receivers went through individual drills in the following order: Chris Black, ArDarius Stewart, Robert Foster, Parker Barrineau, Daylon Charlot, Calvin Ridley, Derek Kief, Deionte Thompson and Richard Mullaney.

The quarterbacks remained in two different throwing groups with Jake Coker and Alec Morris in the first and David Cornwell, Cooper Bateman and Blake Barnett in the next.

Not much new from the defensive line or the tight ends from yesterday. Didn't see any notable changes there.

The first group of five on the offensive line looked like it did yesterday. From left to right it was Cam Robinson, Ross Pierschbacher, Ryan Kelly, Bradley Bozeman and Dominick Jackson. Saw freshmen Brandon Kennedy, Richie Petition and Matt Womack in one of the three-man groups together.

As noted yesterday, Dillon Lee was working with the middle linebackers instead of the outside linebackers. The first two outside linebackers were Ryan Anderson and Denzell Devall, but only got to watch a couple reps there.

At least one pro scout was out there from the Browns. Couple more guys with NFL logos were there, but they weren't taking notes, so they might not have actually been with teams.

Up next: The third practice of the spring takes place Saturday, followed by Fan Day on Sunday. Saban and the coordinators, Lane Kiffin and Kirby Smart, will speak to reporters before Fan Day.
