šŸ€ Alabama Men’s Basketball Edges UT Arlington, 77-76

Here's the thing with Sexton and Petty: we knew what we were getting. Impressive, but somewhat expected.
A note to go along with that.

Think about the role that Dazon played last year. If he wasn't scoring, there was a good chance the entire team wasn't scoring.

Even with the additions of Petty, Sexton, and Jones ... Dazon is averaging more rebounds, more points, and more assists than he was last year. He's down on 3PT% but the team is getting that production from several.

You are talking a bit out of your ass here, bird. Why can't you admit that's a good ball club Bama played last night. The vast majority outside of the Bama fan base are saying the same.

Exactly! It's a sure way to keep flex in the knee for the proper technique.

No, I cant admit that because I think they're an average Sun Belt team. If I see otherwise, I will acknowledge that. I'm being cautiously optimistic about the success early. We will have a pretty firm grasp on how good this team can be pretty quick IMO though.

I understand the reservations. One of my absolute best friends told me a couple of weeks ago, "I know, I know, you think they're going to do better this year." We have seen some pretty rough times in the last few years. You have to admit, though, if they're undefeated next Monday morning, this team is probably going to be pretty special.

Yes, Alabama basketball has made me a VERY jaded fan over the last decade or so. Minnesota is the first true test IMO, if they beat them I'm all in.

Two different subjects here.

One, your characterization of UTA. And two, the early success.

Recall, here's where this started and where we are right now.

Struggling with UT Arlington not a great look, though.

Forgive me for thinking a struggle win over a NIT Sun Belt team isn't great.

And again, they won the Sun Belt regular season last year with 27 wins. Continually pushing the NIT theme doesn't work when the conference gets one automatic bid out of 300+ teams. Four seniors returning with a JUCO transfer. Two future NBA players on the court.

Simply and frankly put. You're disrespecting a good ball team and doing it...well, poorly.

Minnesota is the test but UTA has a higher RPI. How does that work now?

As to the early success, as I've stated I can't recall seeing a Bama team put together as well as this one. In my lifetime and I do follow basketball--as a sport and a Bama fan.

I understand and don't have any issue with your pessimism. However, saying you're all in after a win? SMH. DJD. You just worded that poorly, right?

Sun Belt... enough said. And No. 1 you cant point to UTA's success last season in the SUN BELT... again NIT... and then somehow dismiss the 14th ranked team in the country, who by the way actually went to the REAL tournament last year as being a bigger test than a SUN BELT team.

And by "all in" I mean raising my optimism to that of everyone else.

Aight.

I'm going to leave you with this thought.

While I don't believe it'll be something we'll talk about a lot at the end of the conference tourney's it has been in the past. Think about how many times you've glanced at the RPI standings just to see where teams fell? Bama or not. I know you've played brackets.

UT Arlington is a team you'll look at come tourney time and find them to be a gem in the RPI standings.

Bird, I hate hypotheticals or what-if's across the board (and it's one of the reasons I appreciate Saban's attitude towards those types of questions.)

But, for the heck of it, let's play one since it's a holiday weekend, shall we?

Let's imagine we're both Purdue fans this morning. We're looking at our Basketball team and see our Boilermakers are ranked #16 by the Coaches, #18 by the AP writers. Not a bad place to be this time of the season, right?

This morning we find ourselves looking over yesterday's score and see our Boilermakers ...

Lost to a Sun Belt team. :naughtydevil: :bird:

And another note here.

I realize we're only four games in to the '17-'18 season but one thing to take note of here ...

Colin is averaging 25 points a game right now. If that continues, I think he'll leave Tuscaloosa ranked at the top of the record books for average points per game. I've been sitting here thinking about past scorers and can't come up with one who has averaged that much per game.

Can anyone? @psychojoe
Terry, Moose Harper back in the fifties probably has the highest single season and career ppg records, as well as the career records for rebounds per game. Of course he was a giant when he played, at 6'8" and 230.

Jerry Harper back in the fifties would be my only candidate. I am away from any resources, but I think he averaged 23 a game as a senior.
