Arkansas is at Vandy tonight with the current line at Vandy -3. A Commodore win, along with a Bama win, would leave UArk at 4-4, Bama at 5-2 essentially giving the Tide a two game lead over the 'Backs and a one and a half lead over State (assuming, which is very likely, State beats Mizzou.)

Looking ahead ... a win tomorrow night really puts a spotlight on Saturday's game when State visits Tuscaloosa.

Bama must pull off a couple of wins on the road the remainder of this year besides winning home games to have a legitimate shot at the NCAA. Athens is a good place to start the road streak.

I'll have what you're smoking. This is NOT an NCAA tourney team. Hopefully we can get in NIT to gain experience for the young players so we can hit the ground running in 2017-2018 with the influx of serious talent.

We have a big transfer sitting the bench this year and will be elligble next season. Also we will have two big freshmen coming in next year to go along with Hall. But no one can say for sure how good the three new big guys will play. For basketball teams, cohesiveness is one of the main factors in how well the team plays overall. Because of so many new players this year, so far, there has not been much cohesion on this team. Next year will be much the same with four main players leaving and five freshmen coming in and the big transfer becoming elligble. But sooner or later when ther isn't so much roster turnover, team play will even out and play with better cohesion and that is when CAJ will have his team winning on most every court they will play on.

Yup. Next year we'll have really CAJ's 1st complete frosh signing class that we can build around.

We need to hit on some serious talent down on the blocks. The Wiley kid ate our lunch down there Saturday. 17 year old kid abused a senior in Jimmy Taylor.
From what I understand about basketable ball...if you are a senior you really aren't that good anyway, or you would have headed to the 2-3 years ago.
That's what Spidey told me anyway.

I agree 100% that we are not an NCAA team. If we got hot, we could be but it would be a one and done at best IMO. I would much prefer that we make the NIT this year and have a true shot at some extra games.

You just don't get to wait and see with 5-star athletes coming in, given that they're looked at as one and done. Kentucky's constant turnover, with almost exclusive one and done players, makes expectations even greater. The Ben Simmons catastrophe at LSU would have gotten a lot of HCs fired on the spot. Not projecting anything for CAJ next season other than freshman basketball players are measured differently than football prospects.

This very well may not be a NCAA tourney team but it's far, far too early to be making blanket statements. Today's the 25th. Look at this schedule and the results and remember this was a NCAA team.

^^ There were a couple of good OOC wins on that resume. Not the case this year.
There were also five conference games lost, in a row. That's not going to happen this year.

One resume from one season doesn't compare/equate to another. Just like the criteria the committee uses one year doesn't apply to the next.

While the chances of making the dance don't look good, saying this team isn't a team that's going to the dance is premature.

Won't argue that bold-faced point at all...

And you're right. Nothing is a certain yet.

IMG_3867.PNG There was a good bit more talent on that team as well. 20-13, 8-8 SEC should get you in with a respectable non-conference strength of schedule and a couple of good wins. Not sure 8-8 conf record is as strong lately with league being a bit down.

However, you are 'technically' correct. It's still possible at this point.

Freshman Braxton Key registered a career-high 26 points to help lift the Alabama men's basketball team to an impressive 80-60 road victory over the Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday night at Stegeman Coliseum. With the win, the Crimson Tide improves to an overall 12-7 record, including a 5-2 mark in Southeastern Conference play.

Alabama had four players finish in double figures. Along with Key's career-high scoring output, senior Corban Collins and junior Riley Norris registered 15 points each, while senior Jimmie Taylor added 10. Combined, the four Crimson Tide players scored 66 of the team's 80 points.

"This was a terrific victory and effort by our guys," Alabama head coach Avery Johnson said. "I thought we were sharp and confident from the start of this game. Obviously in our situation we had a pretty disappointing game last game on the road. We got back up and practiced on Monday and Tuesday, and had a good work out this morning. We were fortunate to win this game. We know didn't have room for much margin of error, we shot from the three good tonight, played pretty good overall team defense."

The Tide jumped out an early 6-2 lead going into the first media timeout of the contest. At the midway point of the first half, Alabama held a six-point lead at 15-9. Georgia responded with 6-2 spurt to cut the Tide's lead to two points, 17-15, forcing an Alabama timeout with 6:56 on the clock. However, Georgia head coach Mark Fox received two technicals and was ejected from the game with 1:59 left in the half, helping the Tide to end the half on a 13-3 run to take a 41-27 lead into the locker room.

The Tide shot 53 percent from the field in the first half, while dominating the rebound battle by an 18-10 margin. Alabama owned the paint on both ends of the floor, as it outscored its opposition 22-6 in the lane. Key went into the locker room with a game-high 16 first half points, while Taylor and junior Riley Norris followed behind with eight and seven points, respectively.

Alabama did not let up at all to begin the second half as Norris scored five straight points and the Tide was able to extend its lead to 20 points, 59-39, with 10:14 left to play.

Georgia (12-8, 4-4) responded with a 13-2 run to trim the Tide's lead to 62-52 with five minutes left in regulation. That's as close as the Bulldogs would come as Alabama was able to hit free throws and get defensive stops down the stretch to result in the final score.

Alabama shot 51 percent from the field in the 40 minute contest, while shooting a season-best 60 percent (9-of-15) from beyond the arc. The Tide also outrebounded the Bulldogs by a 40-27 decision.

The Tide will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 28, when it hosts the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Coleman Coliseum in a game that is set to broadcast on the SEC Network at 5 p.m. CT.

It doesn't have to be NBA level talent but some solid college talent that gets 4 years in school and a shot in the league is plausible. Erwin Dudley, Chuck Davis, Roy Rogers, etc. those type of guys.
