🏈 Alabama losing to virginia tech

We lost to Utah, not because of the spread, but because we played with no intensity. Also, we went down 21 points in the first qtr... they only scored 10 points the rest of the game. I don't think that means we can't play against the spread. HOWEVER, let's look at it like this:

Utah had the 15th ranked scoring offense in the country.

Virginia Tech had the 90th ranked scoring offense.

We will be fine in this game.

I think people also seem to forget that this will be McElwain's second year. I expect some new looks on the offense. I also don't think Tech will be able to stop Colin Peek in this game (he will be our 3rd down warrior). Their linebackers are going to be confused and dominated the entire game IMO.

I know people probably won't agree with me on this statement, but here goes anyway.

One of the most dangerous QB's we faced last year was Corey Leonard of Arkansas State. And, we handled him pretty darn well. Well, Rashad had his number all day long.

Interestingly enough, in light of the Fanney news, Brandon was the second leading tackler for that game.

Not no but hell no! To me I like our match ups. They will try to line up and run on us- ain't happn. They do not have any wide outs to stretch the field and Taylor is not that good of a passer. Our offense on the other hand will score enough to get us the W.

Their offensive line play the last two years has been horrible. To put that in perspective, it was about like Arkansas' last year—over 40 sacks allowed on the year.

Interestingly enough, the best defensive team last year in the ACC was Boston College. And, if you want to delve a little deeper that's the same BC that lost to Clemson last year.

Last year, in a lot of areas, they mirrored what we did on defense, third downs, etc.

The OP thinks we lose by 14? I wonder if Va. Tech will be able to put 14 on the score board. I'd say 17 at the most.

You definitely have to put it into perspective and take it for what it is.
Not gonna bash the ACC...I am pretty sure you know what I mean. I have only seen highlights of Va Tech and it always seemed to be of TT scrambling. Are they returning any starters on the Oline?

I believe Bama will have a better D than last year. Pretty sure our offense moves the ball better than expected. Personally I do not see Va Tech scoring 2 TD's.

They return three that have seen starting time.

The left side of their line is the strongest with both guys in their senior years with three years of experience behind them. The right side features sophomores, one guy has one start. They struggle with pass protection on the right side (left tackle didn't do so great last year as well.) Their center is new as well.

There are some misconceptions out there with the Hokies.

One big one is special teams, specifically how well they've done in punting and kick coverage. It bodes well for Javy to get his yards on returns setting up a reasonably short field.

Don't get me wrong—good defense overall. But, if we can get Julio and Maze (just as an example) to stretch the field only a little our TE's should have a field day against their LB's.

One of my biggest concerns regarding their defense is the ability of their secondary to lay the wood down. If McElroy leads our receivers too much or puts the ball too high they could pay the price.

are you trying to give us confidence or scare us? ;)

The loss of Fanney concerns me only in the area of reading passing routes. That'll take some acclimation for a newer guy. But, then you think about a guy like Anders and maybe it isn't so bad.

Run support, from the new guy playing JACK, is the least of my concerns for 2009. Easy spot to fill IMO.

Something that had crossed my mind. Va Tech used to be known for their special teams, but they have not seemed very "special" in awhile?

I also figured their D will be solid.

I think alabama will loose to techby 14 points, because we can not defend the the spread very well with a good quarter back like taylor. we've tried to do that last year and fellto do so; i could be wrong and i hope i am. i think we beat tenn, aub,lsu and olemiss, still a great year. roll tide!!!!:a::headscratch:

Um.........WHAT???

I prefer English.
