Alabama outside linebacker Dallas Turner on Monday was named a freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America.

Turner stepped in as a starter midseason after injuries to Christopher Allen and his backup Drew Sanders, and held that role for the remainder of the season. He finished third on the team with 8.5 sacks and fourth with 10.0 tackles for a loss.

Turner, a five-star recruit last year, and Will Anderson, who won the FWAA’s national freshman of the year award last season, are expected to serve again as the top outside linebackers next season. Allen entered the NFL draft this week and Sanders transferred to Arkansas. Other options at the position include two other former five-star prospects in Chris Braswell and incoming freshman Jeremiah Alexander, as well as Keanu Koht, Quandarrius Robinson and incoming freshman Jihaad Campbell.

Kayvon had 7 sacks in 10 games. Dallas had 8.5 in 11 games for those wanting to keep track. Thank goodness Thibodeaux has that Oregon degree to fall back on since he got shamed by both of Alabama's outside backers this Fall. Playing tougher competition as well mind you.

Now that is a nice starting point for a pretty good defense next year. We basically have 25 or so sacks coming back next year just with those two.
