The record is perfect, but Alabama is a flawed team

Flawed? As in not perfect? Well, YEAH!! And I am sure Saban subscribed to some of this thought. Maybe the team should, as well.

But for all the critics, the haters, and maybe Goodman is one - GEEZ, whaddaya want??!!

MANY are talking about what a TERRIBLE first half Hurts had - go back and watch the game. He's throwing accurately into tight spaces. I was happy to see it! I didn't even mind the play calling from Lane - and I am usually one of those guys yelling "Run the damn ball!!!" But I thought he had a good game plan. Stewart drops a sure first down on a good pass, so we punt. Now I thought Jalen made a mistake on the first INT - why would Stewart turn INTO two defenders? Stewart was expecting an 'out' so that's probably on Jalen. The 2nd interception? Auburn redirected, two guys go to the same place, one WR stumbles... INT. In BOTH Hurts got the ball out quickly, anticipating - isn't that what everyone, from Saban on down, wanted? Now, the fumbilitis on the toss to Stewart that Harris happened to catch, and the other 'fumble' - sure, sloppy. Did he get nervous, was it something else? I don't know. I AM glad we were able to run well in the second half, but I think Lane set Auburn up for that, and tired them out to boot. I liked the play from Hurts, OVERALL, AND the play CALLING.

Yes, the fumbles could hurt us against a good team - Jalen needs to be more careful, and they all need to carry high and tight, but the way he played, and the game Lane called, showed we CAN WIN WITHOUT relying on the run, and I like not being one-dimensional!

Now let's go beat that gator ass!!! Roll Tide!!!

Agreed on all points.

12 games into the season, and we FINALLY saw how good an 18-year-old Hurts can be when the OL does a decent job of giving him good pockets to throw from.

And against a pretty damn good Barn front 7, no less.

Actually a point I should have made. I thought the offensive line did a great job in pass protection during the game. Especially Jonah Williams!

Hurts has had moments of brilliance. But, not enough of them. He struggles with the deep ball and doesn't decide (correctly) fast enough. If his first option isn't available, he pulls it and runs.

I'm hoping the time between the SECCG and the first playoff allows Kiffin to work with him to better prepare.

His reasoning is flawed... comparing Clemson and Washington's defenses to LSU and Auburn is beyond laughable...

but saying "Alabama is a flawed team" is probably the most stupidly obvious thing ever in the history of stupidly obvious things. There isn't a team in the history of college football (or football in general) that doesn't have flaws. A team's greatness (and coaches for that matter) is overcoming flaws. 2009, 11, 12 and 15 all had flaws too...

As someone that has to come up with material to write about every single day, I get having to grasp at straws but I absolutely hate click bait and troll articles. Mainly the premise was the click bait and troll bait but still its beyond tiring especially after that election cycle.

He has AT TIMES pulled it and run after the first option but that certainly is not every time and he has def. gotten better as the season has gone on. Did you see the TD pass to Harris? That was his third or fourth option on that play.

Jonah did but Cam had probably his best game of the season. He has gotten a lot of flack on here this season but he was an absolute monster and bulldozer against Auburn. I think almost every positive called running play until the fourth came behind him.

Sorry for the 900 posts in this thread lol but I agree on pretty much everything you said. I thought playcalling was masterful for the most part. I think we all scream "run the damn ball" at times and especially up the gut, but Barn was stonewalling the middle HARD at the beginning of the game. Attacking the edges was the right call and it worked more times than not and eventually it wore them out to the point where Bo was just flat out running guys over in the fourth.

Absolutely. I also saw the interceptions he threw and the open receivers he missed. He's a very talented athlete, but he still has a long way to go.

That has been the case for much of this year because of suspect pass pro on the part of the OL.

That wasn't the case for most of yesterday. He checked down after scanning the field quite a few times yesterday. It's amazing what an extra second in the pocket will do for a QB's field vision.

Agreed - he missed Stewart in the end zone, and there was one dump off that could have worked out well that he didn't take - but after re-watching the game, that's really about it. Very pleased with his progression as a QB in this game, overall.

I don't know how to evaluate Hurts performance half the time because we never set him up in the same manner. When he hit Harris for the first TD he was patient and it opened up. The TD to Stewart was also a product of waiting but for diff reasons. It looked like he wanted to take off immediately, but quickly realized he had no where to go, saw Stewart and he threw it. I just think he is going to be a run first QB and that may be plenty good enough. So far so good.

Every true freshman has room to grow. As long as he progresses and doesn't cause us to lose, ge's doing his job. Take a deeper look at his play, and you will see he's getting better on the deeper throws and his decision making. The guy navigated the most difficult schedule in the country for Saban's second undefeated season, only his second with four Championships. Sure, give the defense it's due plus some, but the offense has done it's job too. Take into consideration the play calling as well.

This.

Tough sledding for an 18 year old kid manning the helm of the top dynasty in all of football.

And he's handled it with great poise.

we, as fans, have an advantage over the players on the field. we get to see the game at an elevated level due to either our seats in the stadium or from the cameras on tv. we get to see the whole field (relatively speaking) and get to see all the open receivers, and all the missed assignments, and all the missed reads. we get to see it without worrying about anyone coming to throw us to the ground or get in our face when we try to make that through or take off and run.

the players on the field are at a disadvantage in that regard. they have to see all of that while looking through all the other players on the same field at the same time. there have been many, many times where they've run a play and i look at it and ask, "why in the hell did we try to do that there?!" then i think about me not being the coach and how i don't get paid to make those decisions. sometimes a busted play is just something that didn't work out because of the x-factor. to me, that's just players on the other side doing something different than what they'd done in the past on that same type of play.

you can watch all the game tape of the other teams you want. but unless those players on the other side do the exact same things all the time, then not everything will work all the time.

so when it seems like Jalen isn't making his reads or progressions, maybe he is but is just seeing something different than what he saw in practice or from watching game tape. luckily we haven't had to get bailed out of too many situations because of that. and hopefully we never will.

but i do think he'll continue to get better, especially since he was given the reins to the top football program in the country at a time when most players are sitting on the bench just hoping the score goes high enough so they can step on the field and get in a few plays.

We all know how lofty Saban's expectations are... just imagine if his expectations were as lofty as some in our fanbase... Hurts would have been benched a long time ago for not being perfect. It gets beyond ridiculous at times.

I have a cousin that falls in this category!! His dumbass was blowing up my phone in the first half bitching about the 2 picks! He is on another level when it comes to expectations being through the roof!
