🏈 Alabama football team reloads at 'Jack' position

Since Nick Saban has been the head coach at Alabama, the Crimson Tide has listed the outside linebackers in its multiple 3-4 as the "Jack" and "Sam" positions, with the Jack as a sort of designated pass rusher.

LaMarr Woodley is one of the top pass rushers in the NFL. After breaking in as a rookie out of Michigan in 2007, Woodley has posted 44 sacks in the last four years for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He missed six games with an injury last season and still made nine.

And Woodley is only the second-best pass rusher on his team.

Dick LeBeau's 3-4 Steelers defense has for years been one of the top units in the NFL, and the main reason is that it gets to the quarterback. With Woodley on one side of that 3-4 and 2008 NFL defensive MVP James Harrison on the other, much of that pressure comes from the outside linebacker spots, and an offense never knows which side it's coming from.
