No. 2 Alabama (feels strange to type that) is currently 8-0 heading into this weekend's game against LSU. Today, I provide my Alabama Hot 11 going into a key SEC matchup.
Jalen Hurts
Analysis: Hurts continues to display leadership on the field, make plays, and most importantly, win games. He is 22-1 as a starter at Alabama and climbing the record books in several different categories. This year, Hurts as a sophomore has thrown for 95-151 for 1,223-yards and 9 touchdowns, and also ran for 631-yards with 6 additional scores.
Damien Harris
Analysis: Harris is having a monster year despite caring the football just 81-times this year. Heās made the most of those carries racking up 697-yards which is an 8.6 per rush average and scored 10 touchdowns on the year. He also has two 75-yard touchdown runs and is averaging 87.1-yards per game. To better put things into perspective, Auburnās Kerryon Johnson who leads the SEC in rushing has 137-attempts for 723-yards which is an average of 5.3.
Bradley Bozeman
Analysis: You could argue that Bozeman is the true heart and soul of the offense this year. Come the start of Saturday eveningās game against LSU, he will have started 24 consecutive games and is the weekly spokesman of the team following and before each game. The coaches and team likely know it, and hopefully, the Alabama fan base knows just how instrumental his presence is weekly.
Calvin Ridley
Analysis: Ridley has been Alabamaās most consistent receiver all year long and he leads the team in receptions by a mile. On the year, Ridley has caught for 41 receptions for 523-yards, the next leading receiver Jerry Jeudy has just 12 receptions. Ridley has two long touchdown receptions this year and his per catch average is 12.8. Heās an NFL receiver in the making and continues to display that weekly at Alabama.
Andy Pappanastos
Analysis: Alabama kicker Andy Pappanastos has played a big role in Alabamaās success thus far. Rarely talked about, Pappanastos is 13 for 16 kicking field goals this year (82%) and is a perfect 42 for 42 in kicking PATs. He is 3 of 6 from 40-49-yards out and is leading the SEC in scoring with 81 total points. A good field goal kicker is the undervalued position in college football.
Minkah Fitzpatrick
Analysis: Another promising future NFL prospect from Alabama is Fitzpatrick who is having a strong junior season at Alabama in the secondary. On the year, he has recorded 35 total tackles, five tackles for a loss, four pass breakups, and one interception. Teams stay away from him, teams game plan around him, and heās a big play waiting to happen. Fitzpatrick is not only one of the best on the defense, heās one of the best in the Nation.
Levi Wallace
Analysis: Wallaceās play for Alabama within the secondary has really been one of the biggest stories of the year. Who would have thought a former walk-on would lead the SEC in passes defended with 12 and be tied for 3rd in interceptions through the first eight games of the season? Wallace continues to come to work weekly and make plays, this season he has 23 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, and two quarterback sacks.
Rashaan Evans
Analysis: The alpha on the defense. Evansā play is only getting better and better and heās primed for the NFL following this year. Against Tennessee, he recorded six tackles and nearly killed the quarterback twice. On the season, despite missing two early season games, he has 26 tackles, six tackles for a loss, five quarterback hurries, and three quarterback sacks. Evans is coming for running backs, quarterbacks, everyone.
Ronnie Harrison
Analysis: The Alabama secondary is stacked with talent but donāt forget about 6-foot-3, 215 pound Ronnie Harrison at safety. Another future NFL prospect continues to produce weekly for Alabama and is having a very big year. On the season he leads the team in tackles with 44, three tackles for a loss, two sacks, two intersections, and is a very vital part of a pass defense which is only allowing 169.6-yards per game.
Shaun Dion Hamilton
Analysis: SDH, as he's referred to on the team, is lights out weekly. Just an incredible season heās putting together through the midway point of the year. His season to date stats is great. 37 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and two quarterback hurries. Throughout the week the defense relies on his ability to make plays ignite the defense, and heās been doing just that. Right now, heās the comeback player of the year for the Crimson Tide.
DaāRon Payne
Analysis: Continues to have a solid year at defensive tackle and has really increased his NFL stock over the year by becoming more agile. On the season he is always plugging up the middle of the field, can chase down running backs, and his season stats read 30 tackles, five quarterback hurries, and two pass breakups. Payne will be tough to replace.
