| BSB/SB ðŸ¥Ž Alabama Falls in Sunday Slugfest as Tennessee Takes Weekend Series

Final. 7-5 Tennessee. We had a little to cheer about with yesterday’s win and in the 5th today. Bottom line this is just not a very good team. I’m sure youth has something to do with it but also there are several experienced players on this team that are not stepping up. Also poor coached team.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Sunday's series rubber match between Alabama and Tennessee provided plenty of excitement, but the Lady Vols ultimately held on in a back-and-forth slugfest to win, 7-5, and take the weekend series over the Crimson Tide.

After a scoreless first inning, Alabama (24-10, 2-4 SEC) jumped on Tennessee (26-2, 8-1 SEC) in the second, scoring two runs to chase starting pitcher Payton Gottshall before game-one winner Ashley Rogers (10-0) entered in relief and got out of the jam, limiting the damage to two runs. The Crimson Tide ran into trouble in the bottom of the third, with runners at the corners after a throwing error and Kiki Milloy made them pay with a three-run home run to put the home team in front.

Later in the third inning, a would-be three run home run was overruled as the batter passed the baserunner at first and was ruled out, though the two lead runners still scored on the play to extend the lead to 5-2. Alex Salter entered in relief and secured the final out, but the Lady Vols were now in front. Tennessee added two more in the fourth on a two-run double to make it 7-2 and Alabama got three back in the next half-inning on a pair of home runs from Kenleigh Cahalan and Bailey Dowling to draw within two, down 7-5. The Tide couldn't draw any closer in the sixth or seventh however as the Lady Vols held on for the two-run win to take the series.

Six different players earned a hit in the losing effort, including home runs from Cahalan and Dowling and doubles from Ally Shipman and Ashley Prange. Three different pitchers saw time in the circle for the Tide, including 2.2 hitless shutout innings from Jaala Torrence at the end to keep it a two-run game.

We all seemed to agree if we won 1 out of 3 in Knoxville this weekend we would be pleased. We were 1 error away from winning the series against a team that had lost 1 time this season. Not to mention the "grand slam" we missed by inches over the left field foul pole.

Tennessee had allowed 15 runs all season (25 games) before this series including just 2 to Ole Miss in a 3 game series and 2 to #10 ranked LSU in a 3 game series. We scored 10 runs in our 3 game series at Tennessee.

And look what Arkansas did to #10 ranked Florida this weekend. They took 2 out of 3 and won 14-1 yesterday.

Obviously moral victories don't count in the standings but you guys trash this team like they are terrible when they are capable of beating any team on any given day. We have already beat currently ranked #3 Tennessee, #7 Florida St., and #8 Texas. And if we get hot we have a shot at making some noise this year. I don't believe we are as strong this season as some seasons in the past but we also aren't as bad as many are saying.

I'm with you, but we also gotta produce. Seems like the offense is the problem more than anything. Hitting is the toughest part of the game, so it's difficult to believe that is an in season possibility. We always teach our teams we prepare, work on changes, and work during the off-season and only tweak during the season.
