Alabama linebacker commit Markail Benton will have surgery by the end of this week to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, he tells BamaOnLine.
The four-star 'backer from Central High School (Phenix City, Ala.) also has a torn labrum in his shoulder. Both injuries will force the Tide commit out of the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game set for next week in Montgomery.
The injuries occurred in the Red Devils' playoff loss to McGill-Toolen earlier this month.
Benton committed to Alabama last June over Auburn and Florida State.
The 6-foot-2, 237-pounder says he will still play in the Under Armour All-America game on Jan. 1.
Benton is rated the No. 5 outside linebacker and the No. 86 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
