I just wanted to comment on how proud I am to be a Bama fan with Coach Saban at the helm. This Brandon Spikes issue has once again reminded me of how our coaching staff would not compromise the character of Alabama football. I think that if this would have happened with one of our players, the consequences would have been much greater. Like all universities, we have had our challenges with athletes making poor choices but Coach Saban has let it be known and backed up his word that we are going to have good character players participating on his team.

He might, or he might not. He might say that Saban was compassionate when he allowed Hall to dress on Senior Day and play a portion of his last game at BDS in front of his parents.

The way I recall that situation...the decision was largely based on what the leadership council voiced on the matter.

That said, in retrospect a half game suspension for anyone always seemed a little "off" to me. I don't know...maybe like sending a kid to his room where he's got TV, Internet, phone...just about everything else he'd have if there was no punishment?

I don't disagree that it's not a bit wishy washy. I've always thought the punishment of not allowing a player to start a game was the most ridiculous attempt at discipline. I've seen players stand by their coach, watch the first play and then roll right in and play the balance of the game. That never made sense.

I think there is probably a difference in which sport you are talking about as well. Sitting a point guard on a basketball team for a half seems a greater "shot to the pride" than a WR who rotates in and out all the time anyway.

I'd rather see "internal discipline" at any time versus a "half game publicized suspension." But, that's just me...

wow are we really comparing whatever it was that DJ did to Spikes? what was it that DJ did anyway, i remember the suspension but now what the cause of it was. i would assume pretty bad if kozlawski is making that comparison.

I don't remember what team rule Hall violated or if it was even made public but I trust it was handled prudently. My point was that CNS seems to have the appropriate punishment fitting the situation without regard to the game. ie Andre Smith
