Geez, I think he might have. I hadn't remembered that about UCLA. My recollection of Bama's flirtations with him might have been colored by my impression with his responses at the time.

Trust me, this is Byrne's first major sport coaching search. He doesn't want his first major hire to tarnish his young legacy as AD. He's gonna surgically vet a list and make a careful hire.

Are you surprised? As of 2 days ago I firmly believe Byrne intended on bringing Avery back. I doubt he has even talked to any potential candidates at this point. Take the time to get it right!

He might not have talked to any coach but if he hadn't done work on a list( starting last year) then he's in the wrong seat.
