Alabama’s basketball team returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006 on Sunday.
The wait seemed nearly that long during the NCAA Selection Show on CBS, where the tournament bracket was unveiled. After nervously sitting through three entire regions, the Crimson Tide (21-11) learned it will take on Missouri Valley Conference tournament champion Creighton on Friday in Greensboro, N.C.
The game is at 12:40 p.m. CST on TBS.
“The longer we waited, the more nervous we got,” Alabama junior guard Andrew Steele said, adding it reminded him of last season, when the Crimson Tide was overlooked by the selection committee.
“When we finally heard our name called, there was a lot of excitement. We understand that all of our hard work has finally paid off.”
Alabama is seeded ninth in the Midwest Region; Creighton (28-5) is the No. 8 seed. A victory over the Bluejays would set up a likely third-round game next Sunday against top-seeded North Carolina, which will face the winner of a first-round “play-in” game between Lamar and Vermont.
