I heard some speculation today that some folks with UGA (boosters, fans, or something) let it leak that Smart was getting the job, and that Smart didn't want it to get out until Sunday. The reasoning for them doing so was that they thought by doing that, it would cause a distraction that could negatively effect Alabama and their chances to win an SEC and National Championship.

I don't know if that is remotely the case, just thought it was interesting.

Yeah, I bet that was Georgia's plan.

I said that at the beginning of the thread.. only way Kirby bails on us is if Saban tells him to. There is a relationship there built on trust, friendship and admiration between two classy guys. No matter what the Georgia boosters want he will do what is right and if dawgs pitch a fit signing him will cost much more.

There is a dead period between Dec. 14 and Jan. 13, so if he coaches the playoff (assuming we get there) and even the NC game (if we get there), he isn't missing out on any recruiting for UGA.

It's not JUST about recruiting though... he also has to assemble his staff. A lot of the top guys he may want could take other openings before then. Probably pretty difficult to interview and hire a full staff while also preparing for playoff games under Saban.

I'm not complaining by any means. I guess it really just shows how much UGA is willing to bend over backwards and do anything to make Kirby happy.
