Dareus is lucky...

The NCAA did not name the individual who bought the jersey from Green but said the person meets the organization’s definition of an agent -– ā€œany individual who markets or promotes a student-athlete.ā€ That put Green in violation of the NCAA rule against receiving benefits from agents.

Selling a jersey to a non-agent also would violate NCAA rules, which prohibit student-athletes from receiving money for memorabilia.

The four-game suspension is at the top end of the range the NCAA typically imposes for this type of violation.

I think he got hosed, this is not (in my opinion) a four game suspension issue. It was his jersey afterall, they were given to the players after the bowl game right? So it's no different than him selling his textbooks (that he didn't pay for because of his scholorship) back to the store after he used them. Just sayin'....

I guess we are lucky that Dareus only got 2 games.

well, I guess Dareus was forthcoming with information when questioned, maybe Green tried to hide it. They're both paying it back, and AJ's was nearly half the monetary value, so that's my only guess

I agree Porter. The NCAA wants the kids to be forthcoming with all of the information and don't hold anything back. It reminds me of being a child. Your mom and dad tell you to tell the whole truth or the punishment will be worse.

I was talking with a guy that works the local sports media in Charleston. Green is from Summerville which is a suburb.

The week of the party A.J. claims to have been in Summerville—coincidentally a town he played high school football in—but there hasn't been a single soul that's come forward and said, "I've seen him." Trust me...it would have happened with his fame.

Makes an interesting game...UGA losing their best WR and USC losing their best CB.

I would hope that all Alabama players see how Dareus answered questions, and how Harris answered questions last year, and that serves as a good example in the future. This AJ Green fiasco is a bad example of how to handle questions about NCAA issues. One would think that after all Alabama has been through over the years, our guys would always want to tell the whole truth, and be convinced to do so by our staff. I think that is the case. Other schools?? USC for example? Maybe they thought their guys were untouchable or something, or their program as a whole might be untouchable.

"Touched" they were....
