šŸˆ AHSAA 2016 & 2017 FOOTBALL ALIGNMENT w/ MAPS

Thanks for the link. I see that Randolph County move up to 3A. RCHS having just 24.40 more students then Woodland that still a 2A. both of these school are about 10 miles apart.

My old HS, Corner High in Jefferson County stayed 5A, but moved regions. They spent the last two years with all of the Bham city 5A teams and NO GATES AT ALL!!! The move helps them financially for sure!
My current employer, Sylacauga HS, remains 5A. The regions moves some but not much. Two blocks away and across the railroad tracks, sits 3A BB Comer HS. If this city wasn't so dysfunctional, combining the two schools would produce a 7A school with close to a population of 800!

Huffman has moved up to 7A Region 3. So now my alma mater gets to play my current school in a battle of teams that will never win this region.

Go Vikes! Great day to be a Warrior...Something like that. :what:

Do what..... My mom lived off Edwards Lake Road for a long time, hell I worked at the Food World next door to Huffman for a while. I went to Going Elementary and to whatever the middle school name was for a year before moving to my dads and going to Trussville.

Not sure who Trussville was playing last year, but what a crappy travel schedule they have, Gadsden and Huntsville schools.

They moved Hewitt out of the Hoover/ over the mountain region and sent them North. In exchange, Huffman gets placed in there and will get drubbed. It will help Hewitt as far as playoffs go.

Going...Ha! We used to practice soccer at that little school.

My dad was religious about shopping at that Food World. He loved it there. My mother liked the Zayre store there, too. Now that whole place is the new Huffman High School. It's a practical Taj Mahal.

Why the fuck did they move Wetumpka and Stanhope in different regions? And did they just pull teams from different regions and decide to put them there? Region 3 consist of high schools like Opelika, Wetumpka, Benjamin Russell (Alex City) Pelham, and Chelsea. Why not put the Birmingham schools together, then add some other northern Al schools. It makes sense and you can preserve some of the rivalries.

Region 3 in 7A is going to be the most competitive.

Unless Prattville returns to what they used to be, that is Auburn's region year in and year out. Central Phoenix City has had some talented teams, but they're far from being on the levels of Prattville and Auburn

The ASHAA isn't known for being sensible or worrying about logistics. They start in the Mobile area and work their way up the state. I started coaching at Fultondale in the early 90's before region play evolved. My last year, the AHSAA voted to go to region play. This also coincided with private schools being bumped in their enrollment numbers as 1.35 per student instead of 1. We had been in an area with Cordova, Carbon Hill, and Briarwood. I was thrilled to see Briarwood jump to 5A. F'dale was then moved west with Aliceville, Northside, Eutaw, and others. I bitched at the move. I then took a job here in Sylacauga and learned that our region would be comprised of Briarwood, Homewood, Ben Russell, Valley, Wetumpka, Talladega, etc. The first 3 had won consecutive championships prior. Briarwood 3 straight in 3A with the Castille boys, Homewood 3 of 4 in 5A , with Ben Russell winning the 4th.

I can't remember the exact enrollment count when I graduated at Grissom, but we were 4A at the time. Now they're 7A and the enrollment is pretty close to what it was 37 years ago. In fact, I thought we had more than the 1,365 listed since I seem to recall we had well over 400 in our senior class. I'm sure there's some logic to their reasoning of having an additional 3 classifications (5A,6A,7A). Maybe it has to do with the 'new math' - or the 'internets'. :D

Feel bad for Stanhope. They're put in a tough region, and are tring to preserve their rivalries with Wetumpka and Prattville- Wetumpka making the playoffs the last 3 years and Prattville usually a powerhouse.

Foley, Daphne, and McGill Toolen is usually fun and intriguing. I remember when Foley and Daphne were on ESPN, showing Julio for Foley, the attendance and atmosphere was amazing and respected by ESPN

What year did you finish? Up until '83-'84 I believe, there were only 4 classifications. With new schools popping up, they expanded. While some of the older schools closed, tons more sprouted up to take their place.
