Mark Schlabach, ESPN, writes about budget concerns with different NCAA schools.

Hey, I understand some schools plights. But, here's a jewel in this article which just ticks me off.

Boston College athletics director Gene DeFilippo said:

"We need to look at it on a national level so there's a more level playing field," DeFilippo said. "None of us want to disadvantage our student-athletes or our coaches or our teams. If Stanford is going to lose three administrators, then so does Boston College and everybody else. If Stanford is going to lose a coach, then everybody needs to do it. Stanford shouldn't be the only school hurt."
That's, and there is no simpler way to put this, a load of bull-chizik.

Stanford, despite having less than half of the University of Alabama's enrollment, has close to 300 more student athletes (818) in sports programs than UA (525) does.

If a school, which is bring in the same amount of money as others who are successful, but is over-extending themselves with the number of programs they support should tighten their own belts.

Arizona athletics director Jim Livengood said:

"What's going to happen in 2012 when all the stimulus money is gone?" Livengood asked. "That's when the rubber hits the road. It's scary."
What's scary? The thought of a school spending money it doesn't have to spend?

And, how the hell does he find it scary when his own Athletic Department ends in the black? To the tune, mind you, of $3,040,113?

Arizona has 448 student athletes. Perhaps he should share that little fact with Stanford, eh?

Boston College? That school doesn't get a bit of my sympathy either.

BC is carrying 644 student athletes with half the enrollment of UA. They ended up in the black, just over breaking even, but it's as evident as it can be...

(These figures are from the US Dept. of Ed's last report)

:swear:This is just crazy why are we providing them with stimulus to keep schools sports programs running if you cant afford them then you need to cut them

I don't think there is a specific stimulus program for sports programs (other than proposals by the Green Party for youth programs.)

I think he was trying to draw a comparison between economic stimulus packages and how it was directly related to a programs health. (or, in simpler terms, using a catch-phrase hoping to induce sympathy)
