šŸ“” AD at USC: "I am pleased to let you know Coach Helton will continue to be our head coach. "

Based on what I've learned over the last few days we're seeing one of those situations play out that we've often spoke of; a school thinking about a change and then after looking around they realize "is there a better option available right now?" In USC's case they decided there isn't and that led Bohn to finally make the decision to retain Helton.

I'm coming away from this with the opinion Bohn deserves a hat tip...if for anything, his patience with this. It's interesting to me watching their fan base become vocal about Helton but fail to show up for games on Saturday's; at least not consistently.

Football is dead on the Left Coast....the burial hasn't been scheduled but regardless it's dead.

He's going to have a solid year next year. Slovisis very solid, St. Brown back, and a young defense with a handful of five stars. As you said, hat top to the new guy evaluating and seeing a potential in his team next year.

And you're right, their crowds are pathetic at games. I often watch Pac-12 games thinking how much cheaper it would be to be a fan and have all those tickets available for just about nothing.

Well....USC and USCjr are both stuck with their dud coaches. Because neither can get anyone better. Muschamp has figured out that he doesn't have his old safety net anymore (the barn), so he threw himself on the mercy of the administration. And the big USC used to be a dream job...now nobody wants that dumpster fire

Urban Meyer and Jerry Jones. Nope. I don't see that happening. Never say never in this world but does anyone believe Meyer would be a "yes man" to Jones like Switzer and others have managed to become?

From what I understand, and I do believe it to be true, the Meyer and USC stories were media contrived storylines. Meyer, as he's known to be, wouldn't shy away from his name being in the spotlight just like Gruden never did when he was in the booth.

It would be an interesting marriage.....
cowboys and Urb....

But.....he wants the spotlight.... his ego...?
Cowboys would put him there....

It's his ego that would keep him from being the assistant head coach in Dallas which is the exact role he'd play behind Jones. The reference earlier about him being in the spotlight was meant as a comment to him not denying interest or contact with USC when the stories were media driven.

Ok...with all that....
But.... cowboys do have some talent and just some breaks....
....you know.....nfl rosters are so loaded...very good QBs make a difference...and Cowboys have one...
but JJ as micromanaging sux

ESPN reports that USCw's 2020 recruiting class isn't in the top 40. I think it's only a matter of time.

I honestly believe cause they were saying Helton was fired to even start the season, regardless of this season. Take a look at Rivals, and they have been talking about no one wants to go to school there because Helton was assured of being fired. You have to think these "recruiting evaluators" are spreading this stuff in interviews and at these camps they put on. These recruits listen to these industry guys that are putting them on websites, Twitter, and on camera.

USC doesn't lack talent.
The same thing was said about 2016 following their 14-1 2015 season. Max Browne was in his third year, JuJu Smith-Schuster was lauded as one of those NFL futures.

I'm not just looking at a team that lost to BYU this season. I'm also considering it's a team that lost to a seven win Washington, blown out by Oregon, and one that struggled to keep with up Notre Dame.

I'm not convinced it's the game some think it will be other than name value alone.

Max Browne never showed anything on the field before they annoited him. he was a five star from Washington that had zero competition coming out. Atleast Slovis showed he could play this season and improved their offense greatly. They beat a higher ranked team than we did this season, and a team that is thought to have one of the top defenses in the country and likely making the Playoff. Amon-Ra St. Brown could start at Alabama. Vaughns is solid. Carr likely coming back gives them ability, and their defense is basically like ours. Had some injuries that bit them a little, but their secondary after a year of learning will be back and very solid talent wise.

I say all of this saying the matchup is a good one. I didn't say it would be a one point game. I think we beat them by a couple of touchdowns, but they have the ability to throw the ball around and give us fits if we play defense like we did this year.
