Life has taken me away from this board and many other endeavors related to football but obviously I still hold you guys in high regard. So I wanted to share a few things.
1. You guys should all be proud as hell of this team. The 5yrs won 3 championships and lost 6 games. That's amazing.
2. I have watched every Iron Bowl live or on TV since before Porter was born. I have spent more time watching football than probably anything else in my entire life except sleeping. I watched this here in LA with a friend I grew up with in Birmingham. We paused the game to play with his kid at the start of the fourth quarter and picked it back up about a half hour later. I turned my phone off, he did not. He knew the outcome for about ten minutes before I did but he didn't tell me. He did, however, ask me right before the last play what my thoughts on the game were and I told him it was to that point the best football game I had ever seen all things considered. Then, well, you all saw the rest....
3. What I saw was not a game. It was a work of collaborative art with a football field for a canvas. Before the last play neither side should have had any shame in the outcome of that game or the accomplishments of either team. Personally, that game moved me more than any book, song, or movie ever has or will.
4. Now that I no longer live in Alabama I find that I am happier because I don't have to deal with the fans that we call bammers and barners. (I loath them all regardless of their affiliation.)
5. I hope, somehow, that we meet again in Pasadena since it's only a few miles from my house.
6. I look forward to this rivalry for years to come.
