One of the biggest takeaways I have this time of the year falls into the category of "committable offers." It's one of those areas where we'll see dozens of guys claiming offers but very few with offers they can commit to immediately. I've seen a half of a dozen lists over the last few weeks discussing who has an offer and who doesn't. My position, take it or leave it, is be careful what you're reading. The spots are limited and a lot of these committable offers simply aren't that--a lot can be called back up plans.
By my count right now there are roughly seven or eight spots we'll see being open now when we look back in February of '19. It's too the point this staff is being very selective down the stretch. Who can blame them as we've seen the top guys on the board change through the fall and into December.
As I'm looking at this class here's what I see as needs:
AS you well know the class is currently at 21. I've learned they have two that likely won't sign a regular LOI but will take a 'shirt route for the fall semester. I believe, if my numbers are correct, there is still one back-counter left but it'll need to be filled soon. And, as you can see, the math doesn't add up so a decommitment wouldn't come as a shock.
Now, back to Arkansas State...

As I'm looking at this class here's what I see as needs:
- A running back--signs continue to point to Sanders.
- Another offensive lineman or two. We've discussed these names a few times...guys like Webb and Neal. We'll simply have to wait and see how it shakes out (though I'm still leaning towards Webb in Crimson.)
- It's my opinion they need one big wide receiver in the Shavers mold.
- One inside linebacker--love to see Dean here but there are a few more good ones left on the board.
- A defensive lineman--more along the lines of a defensive end (outside, around the edge type of lineman.)
- And a safety.
