Well it is two weeks today that I haul butt down to Tuscaloosa (from Canada) to see my first Tide extravaganza, and have just a few questions for those in-the-know.

I have a hotel booked in Tuscaloosa for game day/night, but thinking of perhaps altering plans and heading back to Birmingham (Holiday Inn airport hotel) right after the game as I will be leaving the next morning anyways. So my questions are....

1. I'm using Birmingham Door-To-Door limo service to and from Tuscaloosa, and wondering when the Uni of Alabama roads around Bryant D open up to thru traffic after a 6:30pm evening game (thus allowing the pick-up on Uni grounds)?

2. The game starts at 6:30. If I were to be picked up in or around the area afterwards, what would be a conservative time frame for it, factoring in the game length, exiting the stadium, etc. I'm thinking 10 - 10:30 to be safe?

I know I know.. goofy questions. But if anyone has even some general intell or advice, it would be great.

Thanks, Cameron.

Also.. I understand that no bags larger than a purse can be brought into the stadium. Is that true? That will seriously F-up any pre-game shopping plans for Tide stuff!!!

1. Look at this map I think all the road except the ones in yellow (9th Ave by the Quad open about 2 hours after the game ends) and blue (closed all night), are open after the game, but the ones closest to the stadium are tough on traffic becasue of all the people that are exiting Bryant-Denny, so it takes a while for traffic to move.

2. 10:00-10:30 is a good guess... I would look at that map and find a spot along an exit route to be picked up... that might save a lot of sitting in traffic.

As long as you are not bringing in a ton of stuff, or huge bags, they folks at the gate shouldn't give you any trouble. One issue though is, once at your seat, there isn't much room to put stuff (some seats have more room than others though).

Check out the www.UaGameDay.com site for other helpful info and maps if you'd like. Have a safe trip, and enjoy your time down here. Let us know if you have any other questions.

My hubby and I stayed at the Holiday Inn in B'ham on our wedding night b/c we had to catch a flight at 4 the next morning. It wasn't a bad place except the first room they let us in had a gun and holster on the bed and someone in the shower. Kind of scary at first, but come to find out there was a cop staying there and they hadn't put his room correctly into the computer so it looked empty to the front desk. Anyway, if you're thinking about changing your plans, you should probably do so soon. B'ham fills up as bad as T-town.

At least that was only slightly random. Pain meds are a wonderful thing. :-)

What I really wanted to say is that I'm so happy for you and excited about the experience you are about to witness. I know you're already a fan, but this will be beyond anything you have imagined. I went to a lot of games as a student and a few since and I ALWAYS get goosebumps walking into that stadium. Have a safe trip and enjoy yourself. You shouldn't have any problems with the opposing folks...it IS Georgia Tech. I hope you can make some time to see the elephant stomp and visit the museum before the game. (I just went the first time 2 years ago before the Auburn game). Have fun and be careful on your flight.

Thanks a lot guys. I've done a lot of math for this trip already, but first time adventures always come with an "unknown factor"; ie foreseeable unforeseen problems. So... just battening down the hatches the best I can. LOL.

Alliebama: thanks for the story and wishes of an exciting time. I'm sure this will be a life changing experience. I've seen the games on the TV, the fan vids on YouTube, and well.... I'm from Canada where sports fans are a notch about church guests when it comes to our "live event" fandomness. So to actually see real sports fans unleashed will be something.

GivinEmTheBusiness: The wrist. It's mine. I do make-up effects.
