🏈 A-Day Game Question - Bama vs Auburn's scores

Well, I was asked today by a Barner why our 1st team offense couldn't score on our 2nd team defense and why our 2nd team offense could score on our 1st team offense. Seems that is the way they play down down on the proverbial Plains. That seems to answer the question in the difference in the scores to me but does seem like they pretty much suck based on the scoring allowed by their 1st team defense.

Did you tell him it was 1's against the 1's and 2's against the 2's?

And, a lot of those offensive scores came against 2's and 3's down there.

It's a crock of chizik - the score down there is...and, it's reactions like your friend that made chizik do it.

Everyone down there is thinking, wow...

just wondering, since i did'nt really pay attention to any of my barner friends when they were heeping along about their offense and the score, but how was the scoring actually done over there?

Just thought I'd pass this along and didnt want to start a new thread on Auburn Football.

Anyway, I work with a guy that is a former Auburn Fullback (early 90's) and still lives in Auburn. We were talking yesteday about the spring games and their QB situation. He said that inside sources are saying Cody Burns will be named the starter....they have already made up thier minds but are just waiting for the right time to announce it.

Right time to announce it?

You show me someone who says they can really take any truly meaningful ANYTHING from an A day game, and I will show you someone who doesn't really understand football.

Just my two cents. :)

But understand, the games are not played like real football games. The packages on both sides of the ball or more or less meaningless. A Day games are a chance to give fans time to watch their teams. Other than that, it's a glorified scrimmage.

I LOVE A day but you can't tell many things about what will or won't happen during the fall from A Day.

Just to clarify this a little more - and I'll forgo making any comments that their offense was going against a defense that had 5 walk-ons playing.

This is off the top of my head, so I'll probably forget a score or two-

Offense:
6 for a TD
3 for a FG
1 for a extra point
2 for a play over 15 yards
2 for three first downs in a row
and there may be one more...

Defense:
7 for a TD
5 for a turnover
3 for a blocked kick
2 for a 3 and out
4 for a sack (if that was the case our defense would have scored 36 yesterday)
2 or 3 for a tackle for a loss.

Hell, Dont'a alone would have scored 13 points yesterday.

 You aren't joking are you?!? So not only 1st team O vs 2nd team D, but this? Is this a new GC thing or have they always done it that way?

We have used some form of this at the high school level since basically, your #1 offense has 7-8 of your #1 D players on it and vice versa. You have to try and make the other side feel like they have a "chance". Being an offensive guy, I always considered it a BS scheme concocted by the D.

I can't remember off hand what Auburns score was. But I gathered all the A-Day stats and did the best I could do to figure up the score using what Terry posted above. I know it might not be accurate but, it's all I got to work with. lol. If I didn't miss anything, because my vision was getting blurry reading all the tiny writing in the play by play, our score would've been, Crimson:93 and White:77, using the barn's scoring system. I know the barns score wasn't THAT high. So if any barners want to give us crap about the score, that's about the best comeback I can come up with.. We would've looked awesome if we would've used their(I wish we could REALLY score) system.:nutkick:

In a spring scrimmage you want a decent score. You don't want a 34-27 score. That shows that you have no defense. I would rather have an excellent defense and a good offense, especially in the SEC.

But Alabama has an excellent defense and a great offense so it's all good. It probably would have been 20-14 if Mark Ingram and Roy Upchurch were in the spring game.
