Eaglestaff a normally 18 ppg player had 40 tonight...this was an outlier game. They just had a guy catch fire which kept the game close. If he stays near his average we'd be winning this by over 20 points.
Don't know that they guarded him poorly they used our normal defense he used the ball screens and switches to create some space. He also hit insane amount of shots while contested too so it's not like we left him on an island alone.
I don't think that's the case. I think it's result of Oats random starting line up and not having consistent chemistry on the court. Oat said that he would trim the 11 players rotation for SEC conference game. I think they will figure it out eventually.

Lineup should be Philon at 1, Sears at 2, Mallette at 3, Nelson at 4, and Cliff at 5. Continue to sub Reid, Youngblood, and Dioubate in. Sherrell too when Cliff gets into foul trouble.
Oats absolutely loves man on man and his 5 to play drop coverage on D. I understand the concept and why. If played correctly, it leads to more fast break opportunities for the offense. But man I wish we'd switch it up at times and play zone, just to see if our length could cause some more disruptions in the paint. The defense is struggling mightily this season. Much more than it should at this point. And we're allowing essentially one player from the opposition to kill us every game.

For comparison, auburn has only allowed four players to get 20+ points all season.
It sucks it comes at the expense of losing Wrightsell, but may have found a gem in him. Probably the most selfless player on the team and he hustles just as much as anyone.
Honestly he and Dioubate embody everything Oats wants in a team.
I know he's had to get used to the pace and such, but I've been pretty underwhelmed with Clifford thus far. I think @mando said it a couple weeks back as well.

I don't understand the limited minutes Sherrell gets. He's capable of knocking down 3s and is much better as a rim protector IMO. Cliff has the build to be a dominant big, but he always out of position and never as physical as we need. Pringle was limited in what he could do, but the man brought it every single possession. Cliff and Stevenson both have some effort issues.
Congratulations to Nelson playing well on offense and grabbing boards. I have been critical of him and his defense all year but the young man played well last year. Defense or lack thereof has been covered so Iāll just leave it alone. On offense, so tired of driving the lane and then throwing up crap or turning the ball over. As @Brandon Van de Graaff said, 10 turnovers in the first half and 1 in the second half, head scratching.
