| MBB/WBB #6 Alabama beats Kent State 81-54

I knew you guys were be like this. I have been Listening to the game and now watching. Why does this team start so slow at the beginning? Man 10 to at the 3:50 mark too!

I'm headed into work and have only been able to watch some minutes in the second half. Cliff had one big block, which was nice. Outside of that, he has given up three offensive rebounds because he refuses to box out. Easy rebounds that could have given us a twenty point lead that led to second chance points.

I also want to know what Stevenson has to do to get benched because he the worst defender on this entire team.

Nelson, Reid, Dioubate, and Philon are the most consistent players on this squad when it comes to what Oats wants in blue-collar basketball. I'd like to say Sherrell does too because he always maximizes his playing time. But Oats rarely plays him anymore after openly admitting he made a mistake not playing him more vs Purdue. Meanwhile Cliff is god awful on the stuff we want in a big. Make it make sense.

Alabama's got to get some of this shit fixed. For a team that wants to play at a fast pace, we are completely disoriented in transition. Defensively allowing blow bys constantly and not boxing out. Relying way too much on athleticism to grab boards. Almost all the turnovers are lazy careless passes. Too much dribbling with no plan in place. Lineups also make no sense. Oats needs to figure it out. Leadership needs to be better from the veterans.

Team has yet to reach it's peak, but not really showing progression in certain areas. Good news is it's still early and Alabama is still scoring a shit ton of points. Sears - while being turnover prone - is getting it together scoring wise. Reid is getting better every single game and that's been fun to watch. Guys like Mallette and Youngblood have high basketball IQs.

This team will struggle to finish .500 in SEC.
I don't think that'll be the case. Oats' teams always start to play really well in January and February. Turnovers and poor D have always been a problem early on in the season under Oats. The '20-'21 team that made it to the S16 with Herb Jones was a very good defense. They struggled mightily vs Clemson, Stanford, and WKU. They got it together in conference play.

I think Oats and Pannone need to take more control of the offense to minimize turnovers. It's not what they want since the offense grants a lot of freedom, but organize more plays with less dribbling until it results in a better assist to turnover ratio. Still allow the freedom to be there in terms of open shots from the perimeter but at least try something to get rid of this carelessness.

As I type this, Sears has been benched due to turnovers.
