TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama was well represented on the 2007 Sporting News SEC All-Freshman team, which was released Wednesday. Running back Terry Grant, cornerback Kareem Jackson and linebacker Rolando McClain of the Crimson Tide were named to the team following outstanding rookie seasons.

Grant, a redshirt freshman, was listed along with Georgia’s Knowshon Moreno at tailback. Grant led Alabama with 891 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 180 carries – all UA records for a freshman. He also had 176 receiving yards on 26 catches. At Vanderbilt, Grant ran for a career-high 173 yards and two touchdowns. He started nine of the 11 games in which he played during the 2007 regular season.

Jackson and McClain both played significant roles on defense as true freshmen. Jackson played in all 12 games and started the last 11 at corner for the Crimson Tide. He was fifth on the team with 61 tackles and ranked second with three interceptions, including two in UA’s win over Tennessee. Jackson added 4.0 TFL, a forced fumble and a blocked field goal in his rookie campaign. McClain also played in all 12 games, starting eight. He ranked fourth on the team with 70 total tackles and also had 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. McClain had the best game of his Alabama career against Auburn with 15 tackles and an interception.

Jackson and McClain were also named second team Freshman All-Americans by Scout.com while Grant earned Freshman All-American honorable mention.
