The Auburn Tigers lost to arch-rivals Alabama in the 2014, 2015, and 2016 editions of the Iron Bowl, but managed to strike back with a 26-14 win last November. Though the Crimson Tide will surely enter this year's matchup as favorites, here are three reasons why Auburn will prevail this fall in the Iron Bowl for the second straight year.
3. A Bigger Incentive
Unlike Bama, Auburn has more to prove. The Tide are practically an eternal No. 1 and coming off yet another national title. Auburn is lower on everyone's radar and looking to bounce back to national prominence. They've proven that they can shock the world and get the job done. And they'll do it again.
2. Getting it Done on Defense
The Tigers' defense can catch fire at any time. And when it comes time for Alabama to make big plays, Auburn will be right there to stop them in their tracks. Bama is known to try and pick up lots of yardage after a catch, but Auburn's powerful and savvy defense has ample weapons to help shut them down before the ever get the chance to run down the field.
1. Gus Malzahn
With Gus Malzahn at the helm, big plays can be expected from the Tigers. Malzahn is notorious for hanging around in close games and rolling up as many yards as possible, and being able to call upon Jarrett Stidham at quarterback is a major boost. You had best believe Malzahn will be reaching deep into his bag of tricks when he heads to Tuscaloosa.
