JMO. When Bediako played here before, he had some pretty good games, but was no world beater on either end of the court. He spent what 3 years? in the G league? Never played a game for an NBA team? That is pretty telling if you ask me. He looks the same as he did before he went Pro.
Another game against a good team that knows how to play Defense. We followed the same recipe for a loss. TO's and not getting back to defend our basket. Not working to get in position to rebound. Can't defend a shooter without fouling underneath. It seems that our defensive concepts are wrong. Either the players are being taught the right concepts and are just unable to implement in games or maybe we are not teaching them the most important One. Which is to keep your man from scoring and Not fouling him. Players are rewarded in practice and games for hustle, that is, steals, diving to the floor for loose balls, tipping passes and such. Which is a good thing. But, the biggest reward should be, IMHO, keeping your man from scoring. My point being, could too much emphasis be put on hustle and not enough being spent on just staying in front your man and keep him from scoring and putting yourself in position to rebound?
I am also wondering how much time is spent on fundamentals. How about passing, dribbling , balance and jumping exercises. I'll be 70 years old in 4 weeks and am decrepit. But I swear, I think I can jump higher off the floor than 22. Of course, at 5' 7", that does not put me very high up in the air. I remember our HS coach having his players jump over a 2 1/2 foot high bench, sideways, back and forth, numerous times. Those guys could really get Off the floor.
