Four-star weak-side defensive end Deontae Lawson, one of the top 2021 prospects in the state of Alabama, has committed to the Crimson Tide, he confirms to BamaOnLine. AL.com's Ben Thomas was first to report.

"It feels good," Lawson told BamaOnLine of his decision. "Like a dream come true."

The Mobile Christian standout held a number of Power Five offers, including programs like Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, among others.

"Just hard thinking and talking it over with my parents, praying about it," Lawson said of how he came to his decision. "I think it was time."

The in-state defender spoke with Nick Saban on Friday evening.

"He was ready," Lawson said of the UA head coach's reaction. "He was excited for me."

So ... why Alabama?

"I feel like I'm at home when I'm there," he said. "Just the coaches, they have a great relationship with me. And the success of their program."

Lawson is commitment No. 3 for UA in the 2021 class, joining four-star quarterback Drake Maye and four-star cornerback Latrell McCutchin.

Outside linebacker's coach Sal Sunseri recruits Lawson for UA.

The Tide's 2021 class ranks No. 14 in the nation, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.

JMO but I am glad Nick and staff are looking more into signing players from Alabama. I guess it is possible that with the success that Kirby and the Shrimp Boat Captain are having Bama might have to rely more on instate players than in the past when cherry picking was in play (more).

We'll see.

Here is what I don't understand about recruits way early? Could change their minds about coming? @JoseyWalesTheOutlaw I think you right about instate recruits. it great to have a bama guy on the team, but it also get the best one from other state too!

Get the best players that fit your needs no matter where they come from. All things equal sure give the nod to the local kid. Recruiting under Saban is not an area I worry about regardless of who he is recruiting against.

Rankings are a good indication of the strength for the most part but almost half on the #1 ranked 2016 for Bama has been a washout. There seems to be a pattern forming of character misses on some of these recruits from outside our region. Nick has done well going far in the past.
