šŸˆ 2020 Fall Camp Thread (Final scrimmage of 2020: Saturday afternoon.)

Any rumors floating around about today? Sounds like Saban is pretty high on the young OLB's & RB's... Always a good sign!
Nothing I'd consider noteworthy; just a lot of confirmation. It's a loaded position group at OLB but we knew that. I'm pretty sure he was talking about Sanders and Anderson as the two young guys who can contribute in the pass rush. As to the young RB's, there's some special teams talent there. And going back to Anderson, I expect him to play on special teams right out of the gate. He's Fosteresque in his ability to get downfield and attack.

For us old folks just maybe he is like Woodrow Lowe.... I am not sure who the Kentucky back was that returned the 1st kickoff for them in vs Bama in 72 but I would be he knows to this day who #47 was/is. Boom.

There's a video that was posted on Twitter in the last week with him on special teams; kickoff. It's a hit that's a lot like Reuben's against LSU: kick was to the end zone line, he was hit about the 10 and went backwards in the same way Fournette did. It was the same foreceful impact, but close. I should have posted it when I came across the vid...can't remember where it came from.

In spite of Lowe playing for the Tide when I was in K-5 through second or third grade I'm pretty familiar with him. Hell, at one point I had over 300 old games on VHS I'd watch throughout the summer. And you know what? He's built a lot like Shane Lee. :devilish:

Hearing Malachi Moore is gonna be tough to keep off the field at defensive back.
The number of guys we'll see in the defensive backfield will be 10+. I believe they played 11 last season, maybe 12. Personally, I'd put him as the fifth guy in rotation at safety (but watch out for Branch.)

Woodrow was learner. I doubt anybody that left Legion after the UK game didn't thing #47 future was bright for The King.

Oh and Woodrow on one leg could spot Lee 20 yards and beat him by 10 in a 100 yard race. TenBears and I both have #47 on our Oasis Best of the Beat Bama Team.

Branch is a Sandy Creek boy, so I was really excited when he committed and signed. You know I love when a kid from Georgia comes to Alabama, state pride. I am kind of surprised Alabama hasn't hit up Sandy Creek more as they are a VERY solid program here in Georgia. A lot of athletes have come form there. Calvin Johnson and Kedric Golston to name a couple.

You and Ten Bears been smokin' that funky tobacco again, have ya?

Darrell Green was one of the fastest corners in Lowe's era and he was running a 50 in 5.7, Lee is a 4.7 40 guy. Lowe wasn't that fast...fast for his generation, sure.

Turnage can play both but I'm thinking we see him more as a corner when they switch to nickel. Let's see how Williams comes along.

I expect to see Sorey get reps and some playing time.

Sorry, I was just listing safeties. I think I interpreted your post wrong - Branch is in the running for the 5th overall DB (Star)

CB - Surtain
CB - Jobe
S - Wright
S - Battle
Star - Ronald Williams, Branch, Armour-Davis

I wonder if Hellams is in the running for Money - sounds like he is ready to break out

Surtain has been getting a lot of reps at STAR when they've shifted to nickel. Branch has looked really good there as well in summer drills.

Saturday, if all goes as planned, will be the first scrimmage. We may have a bit of a peek there...we'll see.

We see more personnel packages in the secondary during fall camp they we do on the offensive line. I don't expect that to change.

Branch looked like a complete player in the HS film... Gave me the Von Bell vibez.

I'm not sold on Wright being a player. Not disputing whether or not he will play... Just saying there's a difference. Not sure which particular player would push him for playing time though

Very limited sample size, but DeMarco Hellams and Branch look like they have more upside as every down safeties than Daniel Wright. Wright, however, is a veteran and seems incredibly tough. Hellams and Branch are elite level athletes that aren't present on every roster in CFB

How do you come to that conclusion based on how little he was on the field last season? 13 games, including special teams, but he only had four games where he was working with the 1's (as a sub.) He didn't see more than 100 snaps last season. In fact, more than half of the snaps he saw were in the first three games of the season.

Was there any that stood out in a good way? Some dudes can flash in 100 snaps. A lot of studs at Alabama have

A number of times he looked like he lacks force ( Same way I felt about Mayden & Carter). He stood out in a bad way on S/T against Michigan... I think it was opening kickoff the dude just ran right through some alligator arms. Going back to guys that "flash" - A lot of studs came through Alabama and you felt their impact on S/T or late games.

Sure I could be wrong. I hope I am. Whether it's him or another dude, I hope there is a "player" alongside Battle at safety. The "role players" from last year's secondary were a legit issue against good offenses.
