The first of the major preseason college football polls hit the streets Thursday morning.

Alabama landed at No. 1 in the preseason coaches poll. Clemson was No. 2 with seven first-place votes to the Crimson Tide's 55.

The Crimson Tide opens practice Thursday afternoon in advance of the Sept. 3 season opener with USC in Arlington, Texas. The Trojans were ranked 17th in the poll. The only workout open to the public is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Alabama was No. 3 in last season's preseason poll before ultimately topping it in January. It was No. 2 the previous year and No. 1 in the 2013 preseason poll. The Tide hasn't been ranked outside the top 3 in a preseason coaches poll since 2009.

The Tide has two top-10 opponents in LSU (No. 6) and Tennessee (No. 10). The Vols picked up one first-place vote. A total of four Alabama opponents are ranked in the top 25.

Nick Saban is one of the 64 coaches who vote in the poll.

LOL, looking over her timeline she's responding to alot of tweets.

But not with much mental dexterity. Much like Ohio State, last season, the preseason #1 position is just a nice victory lap for Alabama around the track. People are better advised to leave it at that.

But that LSU pick, that's just some bad prognosticating.
