🏈 2014 SEC football schedule released 8/21

This makes at least the fourth time the 2014 schedule is supposed to be released at ______. The first one was the Weds. of the SEC meetings in Destin...then a couple of weeks after that, according to Slive, were needed to iron out some things.

I'll believe it when I see it.

How will that whole "Big 12 vs SEC" thing work at the end?

Are you talking about the Champions/Sugar Bowl game?

In terms of the SEC as a whole that's the one bowl game that really hasn't changed with the move to the playoff.

It's still a guaranteed spot for an SEC team and its only one within the new system. (There's a tie-in with the Orange but it is a joint agreement.)

The only difference in this bowl game is when this bowl games isn't part of the two playoff games. At that point, it's going to be a game against the Big12: in the past it was an at-large bid.)

Hmm, so LSU @ TAMU on Thanksgiving...wondering if this is a full time scheduling change considering this has been Arkansas/LSU since the league expanded.

I've heard some Aggies suggest they have more history with LSU than Arkansas does.

I've heard LSU fans say about the same, but they use the term rivalry.

Fact is, there never has been a "classic game" between any combination of the two. LSU is 28-19-3 all time against the Aggies. Take a wild guess as to how many of those 50 games both teams were ranked when they played each other?

36-20-2 is the record with LSU vs Arkansas in the same time period (1900-2012.) Take a wild guess as to how many of those contest featured both teams ranked—either at game time OR at any time during that year (for both teams.)

Just as a comparison, since LSU is considered one of our big rivalry games by some now, here's what LSU vs Bama looks like over the same time period.

LSU is 24-47-5. Now, just as another comparison, in that stretch of 76 games LSU has won 6 of 16 games played when both teams were ranked.

In answer to the question above...when LSU was ranked and Arkansas and Texas A&M were ranked...how many times did they play each other. Eight, combined.

Bottom line, there isn't any history, tradition, or rivalry between the two schools when it comes to football.

Oh, and yes, it's part of the schedule changes. If I recall correctly, the goal was to also put Arkansas facing Mizzou that same weekend.

I've heard LSU fans say they don't really view Arkansas as a rival. They'd rather play A&M at the end of the year due to the fact that they hate them more and that "Tradition" they talk about.

Not only was that "rivalry" contrived, it featured one of the gaudiest trophies ever made...for ANY sport.

Seems as though Bama will just play tamu whenever. Third year with a third different date (end of the season, beginning of the season, middle of the season), this time with a road game to UThug to follow.

These are essentially short term schedules (thanks to the addition of Mizzou and TAMU), the 10 year scheduling starts back up 2016 I believe. 9 vs 8 conf game and cross divisional rivals has probably impacted the timeline.

You don't like that boot or whatever the hell it is?

Maybe a door handle to Flava Flav's house...

Considering 2014 is another bridge schedule chances are good it'll change again for 2015.

Slive said 2016 @ the SEC Media days. Fairly confident he mentioned this in Destin, but too lazy too look.

For those of you who were with us in Destin this past spring, you'll recall we spent a lot of time talking about football scheduling. The end result was a decision to commit the conference to a review of our scheduling format in anticipation of the 2016 season. This review will include whether or not to play an eight‑ or nine‑game conference schedule and whether or not to retain permanent non‑divisional opponents.

FYI, great site for transcripts, here I'm searching for Slive > http://www.asapsports.com/show_player.php?id=14602

OK.

Hrrmmm...brings me back to an earlier post in this thread. Slive also mentioned at media days the new schedule was coming in about a week. I'm positive he said it, but too lazy to find the link...or in this case, click your link and read through all of those.

Well with us picking up Florida and LSU getting Kentucky maybe LSU will chill about the "favorable scheduling" a bit.

I wonder why they weren't crying about "favorable scheduling" back in 2007, or 2008, or 2009...or 2010? In 2011, yeah they had two quality OOC opponents, but other than Alabama, their SEC schedule was as soft as ours this year. No brains on Bayou apparently.
