🏈 2013 Pick 'em contests: Updates to points system (BamaBucks)

You may have noticed a few changes on the last couple of days with the BamaBucks system. If you aren't familiar with it, you'll see your running total under your username on posts you've made here on the forums.

We're planning on using the same system we did last year for the fall pick 'em contest. We'll use several games per week and give you the choice of picking who you think will win.

I'll get more in detail on how it'll run, but to give you a brief glace if you're not familiar with it...

Say you are picking Bama over Va Tech to open the season. You'll have two choice, picking the winner straight up or picking by the spread. The later is more difficult, and therefore has more reward.

So, taking my account as example if I took Bama straight up I could wager 100 bucks on the game. If I win, I get 100. Now, with the spreads will set different odds. It may pay double, tripled, etc., depending on the game and depending on how the spread is set up.

Now, setting that aside here's where the new system installed comes into play.

Of course you can increase your totals by winning. But, these totals will also increase as each day passes with your activity.

As examples:

New thread: 20
New Poll: 25
Vote in a poll: 10
Take the time to tag your thread: 25
Reply to a thread: 5
Referral to the site: 100...

And so on...

So...

For all you folks who'll be joining us in the pick 'em contest for the fall...start acruing your BamaBucks now. Some of you need the excess based on last years picks. :shock:

that is all fine and good, but it sucks I lost all the ones I accumulated over last season, and I think Plano will agree.....

also, will there be a deduction for the ones that insist on posting duplicate threads instead of taking the time to see if the subject has already been broached?

They aren't "lost," per se. But, with the upgrade to the points system there's not a way for me to carry over everyone's cash total from last year to this year without doing it manually for every individual. (I suppose I could, but there are other upgrades, add-ons, and plug-ins I want to add in this off-season...so there's the time issue, ya know?)

I started working on this about five days ago and spent the better part of three days trying to figure out where they old system had failed. As Lance can attest, it just wasn't "fixable." In a way it's not a lot different from the Twitter "upgrade" they installed which in turn screwed up the way we had the twitter feeds coming into the site here. If it's changed further up the line I've just got to adapt.

As to your question, it's a good one. I've not explored it to see what would happen.

FWIW, I've only listed six of the ways points/cash is added to people's accounts. These six probably account for about 25% of the different options that accrue cash.
