Wow, OOC next year is terrible. I know Mal felt the need to point out the BSU hasn't called, but did he mention if he called them or not? I'm fairly certain CNS isn't scared to play in Idaho like most other teams are. How 'bout TCU? Fresno St.? UCLA? (we owe them) Utah? (them too) Southern Cal?

Can't help that Penn St. is down this year & more than likely next year, but 2 fluffy cupcakes a year is enough. I'd like to see 1 top program, 1 mid-level program, & 2 cupcakes over 1 top program & 3 cupcakes every year.

And there are asterisks but no explanation as to what the mean.

I'm sure that the Kent State game is an olive branch that Saban has extended to his alma mater. They will be paid well to get their a$$ handed to them.

One thing that bugs me about the weak OOC schedule is the likelyhood of it being like da Barn in 04. Defensively we should be stout next year. If there is an NFL lock out and we keep our talented JR class, we will be a force to be reckoned with. I honestly feel that next year will be a good year for us. We still have a shot this year, and I'm not writing it off, but next year looks like we have a great shot of running the table. Road games to PSU and AU will be the only rough road games. Miss St could be an issue, but that is a year out. We still have to beat them this year.

Yikes, you didn't even mention Gainesville. Think they'll still be down by then?

I think UF will still be down. I'm starting to wonder if Myer only came back to give them time to find another coach. He really seems to be out of it like he doesn't want to be there.

If things keep going the way they are with Boise and TCU then these are the kind of schedules we might as well get used to. If they don't have to play anybody yet still get a shot then why should we bulk up our schedule when we already play in the toughest conference in Football? If one of them makes it to the title game it will totally destroy college football. You will begin to see all schools scheduling weaker opponents.

I disagree. Florida is young. They still recruit well above average and they lost 4 games under Tebow his Heisman Trophy season. Meyers will have them back in the fold in short order. BAMA, LSU and Miss St is not a picnic of a 3 game schedule either.

BTW...BAMA had Ga Tech on future schedules and they bowed out. We open with Michigan in 2012 and have Sparty in the future as well. One more thing, GA Southern should never be taken lightly or they will go all Appy State on your ass.

As far as the Cupcakes go... The 1 respectable OOC opponent and the SEC schedule will be plenty to put the Tide into the Title game if they take care of business. There is simply no need to have tough team after tough team, week after week on the schedule (it is hard enough to survive the SEC gauntlet... especially with all the bye weeks sprinkled in). Nick Saban doesn't care folks are wanting to show up and see top 20 matchups every weekend. He only cares about winning championships. It is a big picture thing.

Porter, I really think you have touched upon what has been wrong with Bama these past couple weeks. I could not help but think as I watched the Ole Miss game that Bama looked like a team that was simply tired and worn down. I hope the Tide can go into Knoxville, jump on them early, have the Vols hang it up, and the reserves come in and take care of the 4th quarter. Then it's an off week before heading to Red Stick. This Bama team needs a rest!

And if Boise State can ride at the top with a patsy schedule, then it makes perfect sense for Bama to line up a soft OOC schedule.

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason why we cluster our softer opponents at the beginning of the schedule and take on all the SEC in one brutal stretch? I understand tune up games and whatnot but it would seem better for the players to have a softer opponent before LSU/MSU/Arky/ like we do the Barn. Guess its just too much to ask to get your schedule exactly like you want it or is it a philosophy thing?

DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SCHEDULE!

The damn extra game on the road at Duke is what is wrong with this football team right now. THIRD road game in four weeks is why they were dead on their a** at SC. The FOURTH in six weeks at ut this week concerns me no end. I said it when it was scheduled, and I'll say it again: The Duke game should have been bought out and a cupcake scheduled in Tuscaloosa. If BSU can go to the BCSNCG by playing two games then Bama sure as hell can get there by playing 8 SEC games. With the 6 SEC byes and the five straight SEC games in five straight weeks this year, Bama should have played 4 1AA OOC games.

Nothing has been said about it, but a great deal of the reason why LSU is still undefeated is because they do not play more than TWO straight SEC games in TWO straight weeks this year.

The SEC schedules the conference games. I'm sure if we insisted we could get some SEC games moved to the early season down the road, but that's a mixed blessing. Sometimes it isn't a good thing to play a strong conference opponent early in the year.

I wouldn't discount Georgia Southern. They will be light years better than this year's 11th game.

I totally agree, but who among us doesn't like the occasional game with a team like Penn St. I just think with teams like Boise and TCU getting all of this attention that it will hurt games like that in the future.
