Just sitting on the back porch and was looking off into the woods and just realized that if BAMA could have stayed focused that year. With what I think was our most talented team , I also believe we were the most physical team in the conference.

We were that close to having 4 in a row.

That was also the beginning of the time we saw a change in the physique of players. It was the year we started seeing the injury rate effect the roster. (see '13 as another example.)

It was right at the beginning of "is this what you want college football to be" when it comes to offenses.

I believe we'll look back at '08 to '13 or so and see the dramatic shifts...I see them now, others seem to be catching up

Lot of inexperience with that group - especially in the secondary. Hightower returned, but it took a year for him to really get into great shape. Then Upshaw really started to establish himself as a dominant player against auburn and Michigan State. But guys like Dee Milliner and Kirkpatrick really got picked on a lot in the secondary. Once they got experience, we saw their potential come to fruition in 2011.

Also, I think it takes a season like that to really regroup the mindset of the program. New players come in thinking that just because they're wearing the uniform, they'll dominate. Oats had to deal with this in his third year with guys not buying into the process.

There is no such thing as perfect, but we had pretty dang close to the perfect game plan in the 2010 Iron Bowl. The problem was, we deviated from it by playing scared after building a 24-0 lead. They found out quick that a 24 point lead early on is NOT the same thing as a 24 point lead in the 4th quarter. We really needed to be up at least 31-0 and (probably even 38-0) to have truly deflated auburn that day. With that offense, and more than a half of football left to play, 24-0 was not insurmountable by any means. We changed up and started playing not to lose instead of continuing to play to win like we were early on. Truth be told, the GOAT did a bad coaching job that day
