Saw a friend on facebook post this - Just wondering how the players received the ring, seems like that would be some type of violation if the coach bought this for the players

Schools can spend up to a certain amount on rings.

Yep. They were awarded a National Championship by someone and therefore get to give out rings. The current limit is around $400 for National Championship and $300 each for Division or Conference Championships. That is why the rings are always made of base metal (sometimes plated) and CZ stones.
