🏈 # 2 Receiver?

Who do you think will be the other guy to step up. We knoe Julio will get his but who is the other person to step up. Will it be Mike he is a senior, or will it be Maze or Hanks, or someone that may be flying under the radar?

Inside the redzone? Bowman. Bowman isnt the deep threat Hanks and Maze are, but I feel that once Julio leaves he may develope into the go-to guy.

ps Mike is solid, but he has no kind of specialty that I can think of.

Marquis Maze seems to have a TON of potential. Undersized but runs good routes and is fast as hell with good hands. McCoy is very solid so I would imagine he stays #2 for now but I wouldn't be surprised if Marquis moved up to #2. Hanks seems to be really coming along too, but I would LOVE to see Earl Alexander opposite (or even beside) Julio in the redzone. I would love to see corners try and win those jump balls.

I have to change the question to who is the #3 receiver—I see it breaking down like this...

Julio
Tight End position
Left to be determined.

In all honesty, if we can get that receiver who can account for say 30 or so receptions this fall and have a total yards gained at the end of the season at a mark of 450-550 we are going to be just fine in that position.

I agree. I'm bullish on Maze to step it up in the passing game. Having a more athletically-talented guy under center will help.

I really believe Maze can be the guy. Just imagine how many receptions he would have had last year if JPW could have gotten the ball in his hands instead of over his head or ten yards to one side of him. He had so many spectacular catches, that if thrown properly, could have been huge gains after the catch if he wasn't strung out trying to make the catch in the first place.

I really hope Bowman steps up, too, but I think Maze will be the one to go to if Julio is double or triple teamed, and I also think Peek will be huge this year as a safety valve, but it's been so long since we've used a tight end as a reciever, I forget they're there.

I say anybody we have at receiver or TE. I say this because McElroy will scan the field more than JPW did. He will not look for just one receiver. Jones will be first though because he will be open more.

I think it will be Maze IMO, but the ball will be distributed a lot more than last year.

I doubt he'll be open more in a since the defense will double dwn on him without a doubt...so we trully need a #2 man and work our TE more often to free JONES up:td: and i'm not saying JONES want beat double coverage at all.

I think defenses will try to cover Jones more, but with such a freak athlete Jones will be even more productive than last year I think. But, just like what was already said Greg will scan the field more than JPW did. I think Maze is going to be number 2 after what I saw with the way he was used during A-day.

3)Bowman

But, if I was that smart I would be the coach.

Exactly what I meant when I said he will be open. Even when doubled last year he found ways to beat it.:smile:

it makes me mad when julio is thrown into a bracket with other recievers i the ncaa. our passing game was so predictable. julio got covered like crazy and still made the plays.. i think things will be alot different for him this year.. can you imagine a defensive back having to take him on with no help?.. even better, can you imagine a single DB trying to tackle him?. remember the rashad johnson stiff arm?

We will have multiple guys step up this year (Maze, Hanks, McCoy, Gibson). Julio is going to play various WR positions this year and doubling him will be more difficult for that fact alone.

Maze would be my quess as most productive after Julio. As much attention as Julio will draw, double team and such, Maze or anyone should find open spots.
All we need is one more Julio:smile:

I believe Coach McElwain has plans for moving Julio into and out of the slot more and use more motion with him to get him in more mismatches with safeties and OLBs. Kenny Bell could be the darkhorse as the complimentary to Julio. We have guys capable of being that guy, one of them has to step up and assume that role.

Brandon Gibson has really turned some heads in camp, but I believe Bowman will contribute A LOT! Actually that second receiver slot may be filled by committee.
