🏈 16 semifinal games, 13 of those games have been decided by double figures, 12 games by at least 17 points.

The expansion to me is not about other teams having more of a realistic chance to win. Perceived chance yes... It is also about money and keeping more teams/fans engaged longer because of that perceived chance. The CFP has caused a loss of interest among some fans as well as players opting out. The expansion to me is and attempt at putting the jenny back in the bottle.

Participation is now called "fan engagement." It's still participation being awarded.
Would this perceived chance keep players from opting out? Seems like it would. Would be a bad look for a kid if his team was in the "playoff" and he opted out. They would have to go answer that question during the pre draft interviews.

You're staring facts in the face and refusing to admit that you're wrong.

They are littered throughout this thread, and in another, and you refuse to believe what you're seeing with your own eyes.
What facts? Assumptions by some...but those arent facts

The facts are..if u like bowls ...fine

Those are participant trophys....mean nothing in the lanscape of competing for a championship....some are even good games...like the nit in basketball...

Of course they wouldnt opt out...
And .....they wouldnt throw in towel..

I don't even see an issue
Not an issue just trying to point out what I think is the "why" for expansion. It is not about real competition in my view. Even 4 spots may not be either. This year UM/UC did not have a real chance based on what we saw on the field but they thought they did and so did their fan bases.

If I'm understanding your question correctly, you're asking if they allow teams to participate they won't quit?

They had better chance than 50-60 teams that played in a bowl..
Better chance than ohio state....ok state....ND....Baylor.......
Whose chance was 0......

So...they didnt beat bama or uga...but were playing for a chance

  1. I'm against expansion. I think BCS was sufficient, but I'm ok with a 4 team playoff. I don't like 6, 8 or 12.
  2. You cannot convince me that there are more than 4 teams that are worthy. There are a few times where the runner up in the SEC championship game is more worthy than the rest of the conference champs. I've yet to see a runner up in another conference be worthy.
  3. I don't care about more playoff competition, more viewers, more game participation. This isn't a participation trophy...the regular season schedule has to matter.
  4. Bowl games are about money, they've just sold everybody on the idea it's about players last game, etc, etc, etc.
  5. Bowl commissioners get paid way too much money, I've held this belief for at least a decade, probably closer to 2 decades.
  6. There are too many bowl games and there are too many FBS teams.
  7. The NFL has contributed to this with their business model, this doesn't get mentioned enough imho.

You certainly covered the spread

The #2..... i dont know either....
But ok state, baylor , ND and ohio st were on the porch as much as Michigan n Cincinnati
..just saying. ...the OSUs didnt win conference...but neither did uga..

So ...its just a debatable issue...expansion is coming...what will it look like ...?
Regardless...the bitching will continue..haters will hate...lovers will love....it will be $$$$ driven...to xpand interest..more games ( like nfl model...you mentioned)

Embrace...hate it....watch it...turn tv off....lots of options for each person...

"Give 'em enough rope."

Established in this thread so far:

1) People are okay with college football following the NFL model.
2) Decisions are being suggested in hopes they won't quit.

CFP takes on a new meaning; College Football's Placation™.

Rarely has their been more than 2 good teams.

How many CFP semifinal blowouts do we need?

To date, 4 games have been competitive...out of 16.

1 vs 2 have had blowouts....in bcs...in CFPs...
should we just go back to the polls?

I just dont get ...not wanting more competitive
meaningful games....

Maybe basketball should have a committee and let them pick 4 best team....
Not worry about other 60+ in tournament...

It won't be more competitive meaningful games. The current playoff system isn't competitive, history proves this. Adding more teams isn't going to make it more competitive.

It's just adding games, more TV contracts, and more revenue opportunities. It isn't for the good of football...

I guess time will tell...
But if it adds 25% more competitive....meaningful....games. ?

I take that over the current bowls...

I just don't see the negativity ....but....
It will happen.....embrace or ignore...

If I'm understanding your question correctly, you're asking if they allow teams to participate they won't quit?
Yes I am saying the players will not opt out IF they think they are playing for a chance for NC real or imagined. Hard for a player to opt out if their team is in the "playoffs".

Yes but they did not have a real chance but I think that is the point as long as they think they do there is interest and it curves the opt out momentum.

This entire opt out rage got created starting with BCS and then accelerated with CFP. This is the reality of where college football is right now. Decision makers are pulling the strings they have to try and manage it. I personally do not like it but it is the current state of college football. Do the decision makers just leave it the way it is or do they try and make some tweaks? I think they chose the latter oh and it also generates more $$$. Always a plus for the business side of college football.
