I'm just wondering if any of you have something for me. I've been getting the same old "you really don't have 12 NCs" from some of my Auburn friends. Does anyone have like a typed up list explaining why Alabama claims the 12 it does? I swear I've seen one before but I can't find anything.

yep, here's the rings they awarded themselves in 2004:

and here's another ring they awarded to themselves for the SEC championship in 1993... a championship game they did not play  :

Nice to see them on Ebay.

The thing is, our titles were awarded based on the criteria in effect at that time.
The AP didn't start its poll 'til 1936. It would be hard to win an AP or Coaches Poll back
in the 1920's 'cause thar warn't none.

Here's another link, crediting us with 11. The 1941 title is suspect.

And another listing total NCs.

On the other hand, here is the Barn's only recognized championship.

And, their total titles.

Nice. Nice. :D

WRT the "NC" ring, if the owner's name is on the ring does the buyer really need to be told who the player was? Also if the player is indeed a "Superstar", and presumed to not need the money, what is he selling it? Reality and shame come to mind, but how many others no longer boast about "that special year on probation".

Also, did they really use CZ chips instead of diamonds? Fake diamonds for a fake championship. Classic...and they did that one on themselves.

Who are these people? Auburn's NC list cites individually named people. I realize that back in the day, before AP and BCS, that the most authoritative sources were individuals or small groups, but why is a single name cited in 2004?

I'm an individual. I have a name. Am I just as qualified to be listed? What about Doug down at the Jiffy Lube. How about Clair in the drive through window at the bank.

I always tell people that harp about it to complain to the University. They claim it, I don't so get off my back. :D

Funny how there is a double standard though. We hear about all the NC's that Notre Dame has. Some pre-date the AP (birth of football in case you dont know), but no one challenges them on it.

The only one I have ever really heard a good case Bama should not claim is the 1941 season. Mainly because the argument they didnt win the conference and had 2 losses. Alabama finished # 20 in the AP that year with three undefeated teams ahead of them.
