Started long before that game. Mack felt that Texas could recruit by itself, he put little effort into recruiting.


Texas going into the 2010 season had a very talented roster (based on prior recruiting stats), so they had the pieces in place to be successful, the coaches just flat out failed the players.

Garrett Gilbert is a great example of this. He was a 5 star QB that actually did better at SMU than his time at Texas.
 
I was there and we were the bigger, stronger, faster team. The Horns fans looked at it as they were off to a great start before Colt went down. I looked at as we handed them the ball three times on our side of the field and they came away with three points and a broken QB. If we hadn't taken our foot off the gas it would have never been close and still ended up as a 17 point loss... if memory serves. They couldnt move the ball at all so we went super conservative and kind of lost our rythm.
