Alabama picked up a commitment from the nation's top junior college defensive back on Saturday.

Jhavonte Dean, a four-star recruit from Blinn College in Texas, pledged his services to the Crimson Tide. He was in Tuscaloosa this weekend for a Champions Cookout recruiting event. He confirmed the news to AL.com in a direct message.

247Sports first reported the news.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Dean is ranked as the No. 8 overall junior college recruit and No. 1 cornerback.

2017 Alabama football commitments

Dean picked up an Alabama offer in June. He picked the Crimson Tide over the likes of Miami, Florida and others.

He had 18 tackles and nine pass breakups as a freshman at Blinn last season. Dean is originally from Miami.

Seems like we are loaded at DB so why bring in a JUCO?
I guess AFTER THIS SEASON its possible that MH is gone and EJ will be done but then I read where Shy Carter is impressing and there is lots of young talent (DT, RH, MF, TB, etc...) that will have game experience by the time next year rolls around. Seems odd.

, Menzie, came via transfer from LSU,
He committed to LSU and then went to JUCO? Maybe. I'd have to look that up.

I know he went to a community college for two years and then transferred to Bama. As I recall, two to play two which made the move seem strange to me at the time.

Bama has had one defensive back that was a transfer from LSU that comes to mind. Phelon Jones did but he was part of the '09 run, not the '11 run like Menzie.
