🏈 You can change one thing about Bama's football scheduling. What is it and why?

I'm leaning towards playing FBS schools only or even P5 schools only. We face Arkansas State, UL Lafayette, and the Citadel in 2018 .. and New Mexico State, Southern Miss, and Western Carolina in 2019. Plus neutral games versus Louisville in '18 and Duke in '19. Ouch.

More home and homes with FBS or P5 schools, I guess.

EDIT: Actually right after I posted this I saw that Notre Dame announced their 2020 schedule and checked it out. Man, I am jealous of their schedule: Notre Dame Announces 2020 Football Schedule. All FBS, only one non-P5 school (and WMU ain't too shabby), variety of conferences, some really good teams .. sigh.

I would never make a move unilaterally. The only way any of this makes an ounce of sense is if you make me King and I then mandate what will happen to the little people. On a level playing field, all power 5 conferences, a tougher schedule will always be the most advantageous for fans, players, and media alike. Teams with talent and depth will continue to find their way back to the 4-team Playoff.

As King, all FCS games are obsolete. They must associate with only their kind. All conferences must play 9 games and the 2 best conference teams, record-wise, then play for the championship. The King has eliminated divisions. The remaining 3 OOC games will be made up of at least 2 power 5 teams and 1 midtier school.

People will immediately recognize the wisdom of the King and rename the championship game "The TUSK Bowl."

Bama should schedule games to fit your schedule. Come on down.

Well, I was recently told that I can't use vacation in the fall/winter (pretty much from late August to May) so I'm kind of out of luck until I quit which is seeming more likely by the day :over:

You ought to be able to steal a Friday, take a late evening flight out on Thursday and back on Sunday. Sinus infection or the such. Fall fares are really cheap right now.

Play the Barn 1st or 3rd game every year. (wouldn't be that great to open when there are so many great teams to open at a neutral site - forgetting 2019). But would love to have this super hype game to lead into the season

I would eliminate fans bitching about the schedule because it's not Bama's fault.

IF the SEC were any where close to where it needs to be no one would be complaining about played Arkansas State, or The Citadel. Change something? How about the other programs in the SEC becoming competitive.

Fact is Bama is beating down SEC schools, P5 schools, in the same fashion they are the "lesser" opponents.

Why is it this is Bama's fault, they need to rework their schedule and it's not "why don't these other teams catch up?"

I would love more home and home with big time programs. Neutral sites pay good money and make for good hype preseason, but I want to experience a trip to a college town or have their fans experience our town. As I've said before, I don't care to visit Arlington, Orlando, Atlanta, or anywhere else. I want to visit Columbus, Austin, Eugene, and places like that. If I'm gonna spend the money to travel, let me experience the type of atmosphere that I feel in love with and what makes college football the greatest experience in sports.

Do a home and home then neutral, rinse, repeat, for openers. Still get that recruiting bump in GA, FL or TX every third year plus the fat paycheck, while giving the fans an actual big name coming to Tuscaloosa and an exciting road game(when we can afford it).

Also, replace the FCS game with a permanent game vs Southern Miss. They used to be on the schedule every year, bring them back. It is still usually a gimme game but one with some actual history, occasionally they make a game of it.

So, 11 games in a row with no break. Really?

Can't have it all. I loved the double bye of yesteryear with 11 big boy games on the schedule, but the common sense of it all would overwhelm folks today. I was looking at the last 10 years of coach Bryant's reign just to see the different teams we played before the barners and the difference in scheduling philosophy since the 12th game.

1973- LSU
1974- Miami
1975- Southern Miss
1976- Notre Dame
1977- Miami
1978- LSU
1979- Miami
1980- Notre Dame
1981- Penn State
1982- Southern Miss

Amazing how picking up one FCS game has turned our schedules into wimp city.

I have no problem with the current setup as long as they keep scheduling a big dog OOC team. Even that one FCS team is fine with me IF that is the only team(s) you can get to come for a big payday. The players need a break since they can't get up every week for a really talent team. Hell Coach Bryant had Tampa and Furman on the schedules back early in his days. You need that extra home game to pay the debts for all those men and ladies team that don't make money.

It just sounds better if it is Bama vs Tulane or Lou Tech than say Mercer.

what kind of shit is that?! what does it matter WHEN you take YOUR vacation?!

sometimes companies blow my mind with their rules.

These teams you've metioned here include three decent teams. The rest weren't any good. Bigger names, yes. Better opposition? No.

Take those three Miami teams and their seasons combined and their record is less than .500: best year 6-5. A Southern Miss team that beat Bama so that's significant, but not so much if it's taken in context. LSU here isn't any good, at all. Their best wins in those two years were against 7 win teams. Hell, in '78 they didn't beat a team with a winning record.

Notre Dame and Penn State are the only teams in this list we can say "had a pulse." There's P5 teams here--not very good ones though.

Lol, tell that to my boss. I know I will when I eventually quit this year...

Looking into it :D Though dang it, of course the game I really want to see (Tennessee/Bama) is in Knoxville this year.
