ESPN.com lists results from 24 different awards given out to individuals, and in some cases teams. Congratulations to Trent Richardson (Doak Walker), Barrent Jones (Outland), the Alabama Crimson Tide (Most Inspirational Player or Team).
This year the SEC lays claim to 8 of the 24. A conference made up of less than 10% of the teams claims 1/3 of the awards. Ah LBS, its a freak occurance. What about last year? Glad you asked my friend.
Last year the SEC took home 11 of the 24. We have both slots in the BCS title game and there is a case that we are off our "A" game.
But wait, their's more. The year before we had 8 of the 24 again.
Here are two more angles.
In the last few years this weak offensive conference has claimed the top RB award (TR), top QB (sCam), and top OL (Barrett). Anyone recall WRs AJ Green and Julio going 1-2 in the draft. Not bad for a defensive conference.
We know we have great players, but what about coaches? How about taking the last three Asst Coach of the Year awards ('11 Chavis -LSU, '10 Malzhan - Barn, '09 Smart - Bama). And what about the HCs? How about the last two? ('11 Miles -LSU, '10 Chizik(sp?)-Barn).
