🏈 Yahoo Claims DJ Fluker Received Extra Benefits

I agree, Philly. Worst part is most folks only care about one name on that list...Fluker. Hell, ESPN's article begins "Fluker and others". Gotta face it, we make a big noise and everybody not an Alabama fan would just love to see us go down. I'm hoping enough pressure continues to build & forces the NCAA to rethink the way it enforces punishment for these types of infractions. After all, it's has been ad lib'n here lately. I'm all for hammering a program if the coaches or staff were directly involved or had knowledge of it but, how is the university responsible for this type of thing? Guess we'll see.

On the bright side...at least we don't have 3 more negative, BAMA related articles coming out this week :)

Really? The receipts are photo shopped? The text messages too then I suppose?

This screams "hey look they got paid and now we have proof" and it also screams "this isn't just a Manziel or Cam thing

Ok, first off. I can make my ticket say Danny Fluker and book any type of trip/ticket/planner with ease. 2nd, the fake Western Union receipt with Fluker's name on it doesn't even have the MTCN number which is required to send money/receive money at Western Union, trust me I did this type of transaction when I was 18 working in a Western Union/Kroger. 3rd, the most relevant information on the Tuscaloosa furniture receipt is blacked out the name of the person who it's going to...which seems odd because that would show some evidence? 4th, I can book a flight with Jhonny Manziel as the passenger and stuff his name into every aspect of the planner and then turn around and cancel it after taking a quick screen capture/photo of the event. The fact that the flight doesn't say "confirmed" but instead says "closed" leaves me to believe this ticket/trip was canceled at the owners behest and not actually used/done I looked up another Air Tran Itinerary (( http://img.docstoccdn.com/thumb/orig/9654211.png )) there is a difference and this leads to the possibility of falsehoods and photos shopped pictures. Trust me man, I'm used to debunking falsehood and bad facts. Though they seem legitimate and the source can be as compelling as EVER it doesn't mean that it's true. The truth must be PROVEN not just accepted. These transcripts are possible, but then where was the money in DJ Fluker's account? Where's all this furniture he bought? Why would these Agents leave a paper trail a mile long when they know it's something illegal they are doing? The reality is...

They wouldn't leave a trail like this, they wouldn't keep a huge paper trail to come back and bite them in the ass later. It seems compelling, but I'd put the possibility of any of these being real as low at best. More than likely this is a bogus attempt to regain some relevance. These guys will appear before a board say "I hear this rumor from a dude who told another dude about this" and then when names are brought up, most of the names will be the Agents/Luther Davis and Fluker himself. Which will end in nothing of substance.

Unless I misread the article, this took place during 2012-2013. The early 2012 issues involving Fluker's mother probably won't stick. the 2011 NC seems secure. Th wins in 2012 might be vacated, considering the USC op[recedent, but it would be up to the BCS (not the NCAA) regarding any action about the last crystal football. Definitely not good, but Yahoo may well have violated some laws regarding phone records. Unless this is just the tip of the iceberg I don't see the hammer coming down the way it did on USC.

Luther Davis has just made himself persona non grata around Alabama football.

NOOOOOOOOO :panic:

Didn't Alabama pass a Sports Agent law that that would lead to some kind of punishment for these guys?

Yes.

If someone can find the law and post it this would be answered definitively...I'm not going to look it up. I suspect there's the loophole, so to speak. Going through Luther escapes the law.

The last time I said this it was the summer of 2000...

You certainly didn't hear it from the practice fields!

He makes some good points, most of which, it's ridiculous to compare this to our past issues with the NCAA. They are nothing alike.

Much like Cam and Manziel are nothing alike. While Fluker's situation does revolve around a central theme, $/extra benefits, he's not like those two as well. \

I don't keep up with the rules to these specifics Brandon. Shit, head coaches don't either. That said, I've had this thought cross mind mind a few times and I wonder...

While the Sanford/Rowe situation isn't the same they threw this pre-existing relationship clause at the NCAA and the NCAA didn't care who was holding the bag—there was nothing they could technically, without reproach, do.

I wonder if "pre-existing" applies here...

I didn't want to post anything until I had a LOT more facts.... Here's the good part... Agents are all denying that Davis worked for them, Davis was no agent, Fluker and Davis were friends,,, one friend loans another some cash... The NCAA may make Fluker repay all that cash, (or ask him too) and that's that. Given the NCAA's almost non existence of penalties against Manziel, they'd look like fools now going after this tooth and nail... Look for a long investigation followed by fluff penalties against the people involved, not the schools...

He isn't an agent, but here's where we have one of the situations where there's "two sides to the story."

Yahoo! reported:
In addition to that amount, Yahoo Sports also obtained a line-item invoice of 49 transactions from February 2013 that Davis emailed to Fluker's onetime financial adviser Hodge Brahmbhatt. Within the email, Davis listed $33,755 in expenditures under the subject line "D.J. Fluker Invoice."

I don't believe any of the documents or text message threads are photoshopped. Too much information here to go all aTm fan Manziel and say DJ's innocent. Let's not eat our own between those reflexively denying and those saying a NC is down the drain. There's a monstrous difference between the Okie State allegations (team and coach sanctioned payments) and a single player out cutting a deal independent of any school knowledge. It will play out over an extended time line. It will be a distraction and it will affect our recruiting.

The payment of his Mom's expenses by a community bank employee is another interesting angle.

RTR,

Tim

Well, I actually took the time to read the article. For those commenting without reading it, you should really read it through. Here is my take, while at first blush it doesn't look good, I did notice that a lot of the "evidence" they present is Luther Davis' evidence. On text messages, they cite "a number associated with Fluker" which is not proof it is DJ. They have no bank records and the itineraries they reference are Davis' itineraries that he set up on various occasions. He can write whatever he wants on Expedia. What I'm getting at is that almost all of the evidence they have is circumstantial and while it doesn't look good, it doesn't actually "prove" anything. Further if DJ's mother received benefits, how is that any different from $cam Newton's Dad? We should hire the law firm that defended $cam and Johnny Autograph and turn them loose.

Long story short, we are in deep shit and will get spanked while tennessee and msu will walk. Just like that. No further proof is needed. The NCAA will suddenly put Miami on the back burner while expediting this particular matter. But only with us, not with msu or tennessee. Instead of just telling the NCAA to stick it, like they should do, UA will once again fully cooperate, even though that has proven to be a grave error in the past. It makes me sick to even think about it, but given our past with the NCAA, I think we have really painted ourselves into a corner this time. Not to mention, the textbook case isn't even that old. :shake:
