I'd never heard of such. I've never really thought about this. NBC tweeted this out a few days ago which led me to ask, "What did they do before the Fosbury Flop?"

I turned 60 in August.

Seven, maybe eight when those games occurred? Hell, I was wondering if they were even televised.

At that age I wasn't watching Olympic events; no exposure to that type of competition in my youth.

I was about to turn 8. Many sporting events were not carried live back in the day. The Olympics was an exception. I have a much better recall of the 72 games than I do 68.
