The head coach of Oklahoma State, Mike Gundy, has fired a landscaper for wearing an OU shirt on the first day of the job. The landscaper is now suing him for $10,000. You can read about it here.

Would you fire a landscaper that you had hired if he showed up wearing an Auburn NC shirt?

if true, once again he proves he is a "40 year old" idiot.

----

Edit - how many times has Okie State beaten OU with him at the helm, ZERO.

Every man has got to pay bills. I would tell him politely after he finished for the day to either not wear those shirts again or don't bother returning.

My first teaching job was at a school whose colors were none other than orange and blue. For 6 years, I had to tell myself the same thing..... It pays the bills!! Needless to say, when I became the head baseball coach, I took orange out of our color scheme!! Damn I hate those colors!

Way back when my daughter was in high school I was heading up our group at a golf tournament fund raiser where Pepsi was a major sponsor. Some of my folks showed up where Coke shirts and hats. They were taken aside by the Pepsi folks, offered a Pepsi T-shirt to wear while they worked, and politely told to change or go home. Just sayin'.

Sounds like a good time to institute a uniform policy...vice firing someone. And in the meantime, get the man an orange t-shirt. (Or put him on the night shift trimming hedges on Frat Row. The OK t-shirt thing would work itself out quickly there I suspect.)

Wow! Are we really this conceded that no one that works for us or with us has the right to wear a shirt/ hat for the team they support? I could care less what team shirt the guy cutting my grass is wearing. If you went in for surgery and found out the highly recommended doctor treating you was a graduate of a rival would you have the same attitude? "Sorry I know your the best in your field but I would rather die." Stupid! Anyway my answer obviously is no.

Seriously? That's sad! Sorry man but I just can't imagine being like that.

Legally you better make sure that policy says NO logos of any type, not specific logos. That's what our corporate office has, but it only applies to businesses and not sports teams. During football season we have tons of schools represented. Of course this is in Atlanta.

The sponsorship deal is totally different. If Pepsi is forking out tons of dollars to sponsor an event and people show up in Cole gear that's understandable to ask them to cover or remove it. I've been on both sides of that for another corporation. This is mainly due to media coverage.

My kids are projected (unless we move before then- or they realign the district) to attend a high school where the colors are orange and blue, but they are the Warriors. I don't sense and urge to be sick, petition a color change, or anything else due to the colors. I can separate the two and if my son plays football there I'll wear an orange and blue Warrior shirt on Friday night and my Crimson & White on Saturday.

Some people live this. Some are obviously casual fans. It's ok. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Personally, I would think it was funny if my lawn guy was wearing an Auburn shirt. I would realize that if he was an alumni, it may be the only job he could find and I would relish making him do work akin to slave labor.

I used to have a t-shirt a long time ago that I wore to Auburn games that said, "I am a Bama Alumni. You will work for me one day."

I understand that. I am by no means a casual fan, but I can seperate my love for Alabama football and reality that people I work with, for, or over will support other teams, religious beliefs, and politics. I dont really care as long as they do the job and do it well.

Are you as tolerant for people that are more hard core about it than you? I don't care as much about Auburn honestly. I dislike them and hope we beat the pants off them every year, but I have an intense disdain for Tennessee. The color orange makes me sick to my stomach. I think any true Alabama fan that is my age and lived through the 90's intensely watching every game feels the same way. I turned down a high paying restaurant job because it was in Knoxville and I knew the 'city spirit police' would require everyone to wear orange. I couldn't handle that. I would be miserable.

Likewise, I wouldn't want to see a Tennessee shirt on my lawn every day. I'd ask him not to wear it again and not think twice of it. I'd do so tactfully and jokingly, but he wouldn't get a call back from me if he declined.

If it was University of Iraq playing Tennessee, you'd see me on the sidelines wearing a turban yelling, "la la la la la la la".

Orange also makes me (Sooner fan) sick! However, Gundy was born orange and black. He's claimed oklahoma st. is his "Yankees" job, and it is. Funny his little brother, Cale, is the RB coach at OU, and of course a former OU QB back in the early 90's. He's just upset cause he has never beaten OU as a player or a coach.

Greg, are you in North Cobb district? I thought you were over toward Woodstock?

I am engaged to a OSU alum, so I heard about this rather quickly. But isn't this still in the realm of allegedly fired over the shirt?

There are any number of legit reasons the man was let go from the job, his word against Gundy's at this point.

I haven't seen any quotes or anything from Gundy himself, so I would have to agree on the allegedly part, but I kind of doubt Gundy would actually admit firing a guy for wearing a certain shirt, if he did do it. If it is true, I would say its a bit immature in my opinion, but I understand some people are just that passionate about their schools.
